‘Avengers: Secret Wars’: Plot, Cast, Release Date & Everything We Know So Far
MCU has quite a lot of projects to release in 2024, 2025, and beyond. We know that there are several movies being worked on currently and affected by the strikes, but none of them are as anticipated as ‘Avengers 5’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ which are expected to continue MCU’s tradition of majestic crossovers.
Since the movie is a long time away from being released, there’s not much information about it except for the supposed release date, still we gathered all the rumors in one place and decided to present you with this neat guide.
‘Avengers: Secrets Wars’ is heavily rumored to reboot the current MCU
The sixth Avengers title draws inspiration from the ‘Secret Wars’ comic storylines released in 1984 and 2015, particularly the latter, which focused more on the multiverse. In the MCU, hints from Kang in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” suggest a similar multiversal conflict, mirroring the storyline where two universes clash, causing destruction. Kang’s involvement implies a cataclysmic event akin to the comics. This could lead to heroes from different realities battling on a “Battleworld” arena, as depicted in the comics.
Naturally, you’ve probably noticed that the MCU is currently crowded, well ‘Secret Wars’ offers a solution to this problem, and a unique opportunity to cut back on the number of superheroes within the MCU.
But this theory plays largely on the premise that Kang is still the main villain of the next several phases, we still don’t know whether Marvel Studios decided to cut him from the story, or simply recast the character following Jonathan Majors’ guilty verdict and sentencing.
Recently, rumors appeared that Beyonder might be the main villain of the upcoming movie, which would make sense in the context of the comic storyline.
We don’t know much about the ‘Secret Wars’ cast
Currently, the IMDB page dedicated to the upcoming project lists only several cast members:
- Benedict Wong as Wong
- Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson
- Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams
- Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez
- Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel
It’s likely that all of these characters will truly appear in the movie given their connection to the Multiverse, well, except for Sam Wilson and Riri. We can also likely expect to see Doctor Strange given his connection to America Chavez. But other than that, everything else is pure speculation.
Some time ago, there were rumors going around that Hugh Jackman would have a major role in ‘Secret Wars’ as Wolverine of course.
‘Secret Wars’ is expected to arrive in 2027
Marvel Studios filed trademarks for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in July 2022, and Kevin Feige officially announced the film’s development at San Diego Comic-Con. Initially slated for a November 2025 release, Michael Waldron was announced as the scriptwriter in October 2022. However, the release date was later pushed back to May 1, 2026. Subsequently, in June 2023, the release date was further delayed to May 7, 2027.
