Chris Hemsworth Can’t Forgive Himself for ‘Thor: Love and Thunder,’ Claims He Became a Parody of Himself

‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ is by far and wide accepted as the worst release in Thor’s standalone series in the MCU. Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie was a campy take on both Thor and one of his most notorious villains – Gorr the God Butcher.

It was definitely a drastic shift from ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ which is considered one of the best installments in the series. Now talking to Vanity Fair, Chris Hemsworth himself noted that he blames himself for the failure of the movie, and blames himself for accepting to ridicule such a well-established character.

Chris Hemsworth acknowledged that Marvel fans deserve another ‘Thor’ movie following the perceived disappointment of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ in 2022. He previously admitted that the fourth installment was ‘too silly,’ and this criticism seems to linger for him.

I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself. I didn’t stick the landing.

Hemsworth also admitted that he always felt that his co-starts in the ‘Avengers’ movies had way cooler stuff.

Sometimes I felt like a security guard for the team. I would read everyone else’s lines, and go, ‘Oh, they got way cooler stuff. They’re having more fun. What’s my character doing? It was always about, ‘You’ve got the wig on. You’ve got the muscles. You’ve got the costume. Where’s the lighting?’ Yeah, I’m part of this big thing, but I’m probably pretty replaceable.

It’s kind of ironic that Hemsworth thinks like that since he is one of the rare Avengers still active in the MCU today, and a part of a pretty limited clique that has not one but 4 standalone movies, with a 5th movie on the way.

Yes, ‘Thor 5’ is in development, and according to the most recent rumors, the movie will move away from the silly campy tone. The upcoming ‘Thor’ will be much darker, with the studio even looking to nab Gareth Edwards to direct the movie.

Thor 5’s production is set to begin in late 2025 under the guidance of Marvel Studios. The film is anticipated to undergo a tonal shift, with Thor revisiting Valhalla to attain extraordinary abilities once again. Fans can also expect the long-awaited appearance of Beta Ray Bill.

Rumors suggest that Thor Corps and Amora the Enchantress may also make their MCU debuts in the film. While Amora is a significant villain from the comics and is expected to tie into Secret Wars, Thor Corps is likely to introduce a multiversal aspect to the story.

The inclusion of Thor Corps is especially important for the upcoming ‘Secret Wars.’ However the movie turns out to be, it can’t get worse than campy Gorr.
