Deleted ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Scene Shows One X-Men Member as Way Better Love Interest for Wolverine than Jean Grey Ever Was

Wolverine & Jean are among the most notable comic “couples” or rather, Wolverine is a part of a love triangle that involves Jean & Cyclops. Their relationship is often portrayed as complicated or tumultuous in certain storylines due to a plethora of factors.

Jean and Cyclops have a longstanding romantic relationship, but it’s kind of messy. Jean and Wolverine often flirt and in some storylines, they even get together and have kids. Wolverine’s tumultuous past, his violent nature, and his struggles with inner demons can make it difficult for him to maintain stable relationships. Jean, being a telepath, is aware of Wolverine’s thoughts and emotions, which can further complicate their dynamic.

And while currently in the comics, Wolverine, and Cyclops are (supposedly) a part of some weird polyamorous relationship, Wolverine’s live-action portrayals always went with the safest and most popular bet, Wolverine pinning on Jean.

X-Men live-action movies continued that trend, but things were seemingly to change in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ at least judging by the deleted scene that teases a romance between Wolverine and Storm:

Judging by the things said and done in ‘X2’ it would be far wiser and made more narrative sense to lean into this new relationship, as fans have been shipping them together in any case. Fans expressed similar opinions, wondering why the scene was cut:

They fit so much better together than Logan and Jean anyway! Jean outright told Logan she wasn’t interested in X2 and that it was always going to be Scott for her. They should’ve started planting hints for Storm and him waaaay sooner but i’m glad we at least got this scene (even though it was deleted -___-)

More chemistry in one scene than Wolverine and Jean for a whole trilogy. Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry make an amazing couple lol.

@Tonycillian5

I’m still so confused about why they deleted this! I would have made sense in the movie. Been waiting for Storm & Wolverine to get together since the 1st movie.

@CharCruse20

They have had flings and a on and off relationship in the comics for YEARS

It’s still possible to bring Wolverine’s and Storm’s relationship to live-action with the upcoming X-Men live-action reboot. It would be a perfect way to distance itself from the Wolverine-Jean Grey trope, especially now that ‘X-Men ’97’ also went in that direction.

Fans were quite excited to see Storm’s relationship with T’Challa play out in the MCU, but with the way things ended with Chadwick Boseman and the fact that the studio doesn’t want to recast him, that seemingly won’t happen, so why not go with Wolverine?
