Ewan McGregor Still Hopes to Return to Star Wars: “I really do hope we get a chance”

Star Wars franchise is one of the biggest and most popular in the history of fiction and as such, it has hundreds of characters, one of the most popular being Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obi-Wan embodies a complex moral code and sense of duty.

His adherence to the Jedi Code, even in challenging circumstances, makes him the ideal Jedi, with a strong philosophy. Although two actors played Obi-Wan over the long history of the franchise, Ewan McGregor is currently synonymous with the character.

McGregor played Obi-Wan for 25 years, and despite his show ending on a pretty clear note, the actor still believes that he can return and still holds out hope that there are most stories to tell.

During his most recent interview with Variety, the ‘Trainspotting’ actor once again said that he would portray Obi-Wan again:

I really do hope we get a chance to do another one, between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.

This is not the first time that McGregor stated that he would like to get another season perhaps of his standalone show. Around a year ago, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy stated that the second season of the show isn’t impossible but it’s highly unlikely at the moment considering that tons of new content had been announced during the Star Wars Celebration event.

Now, the possibilities for Season 2 are literally endless – of course, if it ever happens. About a decade of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s self-induced exile on Tatooine remains between the ending of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 1 and ‘Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.’ Wouldn’t it be incredibly interesting to see more about those years of Kenobi’s exile?

McGregor is not the only person praying for his return as Hayden Christensen supported McGregor’s statements:

If it means that I got to do more with Ewan, then that’s a no-brainer, but I really hope that he continues with the character. Just as a fan, it’s so exciting to get to watch him play Obi-Wan — he’s just so good at it.

It would be silly to have Anakin and Obi-Wan meet again – that would just contradict the original trilogy – but Season 2 could deal with Kenobi’s life on Tatooine. Perhaps he deals with threats on the planet itself. Maybe we see more of him secretly protecting little Luke from the shadows? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
