Fans Horrified by Green Lantern & Hawkgirl Costumes in Gunn’s ‘Superman’: “Why are the costumes so CW”

James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ is currently filming in Cleveland which has been transformed into Metropolis for the purpose of the movie. James Gunn promised that no spoilers would be shot in the open city, still, we managed to confirm several cameos just from the set leaks alone.

In the last few weeks, we’ve seen Mr. Terrific, Lex Luthor, Rick Flag Sr., a mysterious villain that can only be Ulysses or Ultraman, Eve Teschmacher, and Lois Lane. In the last few days, however, we got a glimpse of Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner and Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl.

Both Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner were costumed, and to see that fans are infuriated would be an understatement.

According to many fans in the fandom, the costumes are cheap and a clear downgrade when compared to ‘Black Adam’ a movie that featured Hawkman, and DCEU’s Green Lantern. Fans hate the fact that all suits are rubbery and clearly ill-fitting to the actors.

This is not the first time that Gunn’s production has been called “cheap” and on the CW level. The first backlash came after the Superman suit reveal, which was called “baggy” and “rubbery.” Then fans criticized the choice of actors for Marthan and John Kent, who aren’t A-listers. The last scandal was when Kent’s farm was revealed, and it turned out to be just a regular realistic farmhouse instead of a mansion.

Seeing all those suits side by side, I do have to admit that previous productions looked better and made more effort for the suits to look “epic.” But it’s important to take into account that these are going to look completely different once post-production has done its magic. These shots were taken from far away and under natural lighting, I have no doubt that all suits that were compared to Guy Gardner’s and Hawkgirl’s would look funny and tacky under these conditions, without color correction and specific lighting.
