“The Boys” remains one of the world’s most popular superhero series, with its fourth season premiering on June 13, 2024, releasing the first three episodes. This season has been Certified Fresh with high ratings, and Amazon reports a rise in viewership. However, some fans are review-bombing the season due to its heightened political undertones, indicating that the writers are fully embracing political satire. One key element of this satire is a new character, Firecracker, a supervillain set to play a prominent role this season.

Recently, we reported on the inspiration behind Firecracker, with showrunner Eric Kripke revealing which U.S. politician influenced the character. Now, actress Valorie Curry has shared her thoughts on the influence behind her role, adding a layer of “The Boys”-style irony to the story.

In short, we reported that Eric Kripke confirmed Republican politician Marjorie Taylor Greene inspired Firecracker. Greene is a far-right politician and conspiracy theorist, a member of the Republican Party, and a strong supporter of Donald Trump. She has promoted antisemitic and white supremacist views, along with conspiracy theories such as the white genocide conspiracy theory, QAnon, Pizzagate, the government’s involvement in mass shootings in the United States, implicating the Clinton family, and claiming the 9/11 attacks were a hoax.

This satire fits well within “The Boys,” but the irony truly intensifies with Valorie Curry’s involvement. Curry, who identifies as queer, was chosen to portray an overzealous anti-queer character, adding a pinnacle of irony typical of “The Boys.” Rather than rejecting the role, Curry embraced it, seeing an opportunity to elevate the satire to a new level.

“It sounds so gross to say, but I really connected with her right off the bat. [I am happy to play somebody she finds personally abhorrent, who’s] so vocally anti-trans and homophobic, because it should be somebody from the community who’s getting to make a clown out of her. So there isn’t any ambiguity. The show satirizes so much of what’s happening culturally, whether it’s #MeToo or the Republican Party.”

She mentioned finding some of the conspiracy theories her character supports a bit too ludicrous and far-fetched, only to be surprised when Kripke would inform her, “That’s actually a direct quote [from a politician].”

Curry’s game spirit and dedication are evident, and her portrayal of Firecracker is sure to be memorable. We applaud her approach and the series’ boldness. Season 4 of “The Boys” is currently airing, and more updates will follow in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to Fiction Horizon for the latest information.
