Blade is an eagerly anticipated Marvel Studios project set to integrate the famous antihero into the MCU. Fans of the iconic vampire hunter are in for a treat, as Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali will play the titular character, joined by Mia Goth as Lilith. Despite the film’s high anticipation and a tentative 2025 release date, we’ve reported numerous issues and delays in production, with the exact problems remaining unclear. However, actress Mia Goth recently addressed the project while promoting her new horror film, MaXXXine, suggesting that fans can feel more reassured.

In case you don’t remember, Mahershala Ali, who pitched the idea to the studio and was announced as Blade back in 2018, has seen the project face ongoing script issues and multiple changes in writers and directors. These challenges have caused many delays, and while there is still confidence that the movie will be released, the future remains uncertain.

While promoting her new film, actress Mia Goth was asked about the status of the Blade project, in which she is set to make her MCU debut. Here’s what she revealed:

“They really care, they do. They want to make a great movie. That’s the sense that I get from them and that feels good.”

This sounds reassuring, and we genuinely hope Mia Goth’s statement reflects the true state of the project. Given the current mystery surrounding its progress, we trust her words provide genuine insight from the production side.

Mahershala Ali’s involvement in the Blade project started post-Oscar win, with the actor envisioning Blade akin to his own Black Panther. Originally slated to begin filming in May 2023 with writer Nic Pizzolatto, the SAG-AFTRA strike caused substantial delays impacting everyone’s timelines. Since then, the project has undergone several changes, including shifts in writers, now including Michael Green.

Initially conceived as a period piece centered around Blade’s daughter and Lilith, the film has since shifted focus to present-day Blade hunting vampires. Mia Goth remains committed to her role in the project.

However, recently, Mahershala Ali’s attorney, Shelby Weiser, expressed frustration over the prolonged delays in the Blade project. Despite an agreement dating back to 2019, filming has yet to begin. The project faced setbacks due to the pandemic, Disney’s prioritization of streaming, and Marvel’s extensive slate of productions. Sources indicate that Blade may have been sidelined amidst Marvel’s expansive development activities.

Rumors suggest Ali might leave Blade, possibly for an upcoming Jurassic World film, but this remains speculation for now. Stay tuned with us for all updates—it’s sure to be an interesting journey.
