Michael Douglas has quite a presence in the MCU. His name is currently assigned to Hank Pym one of the most memorable Ant-Men in the history of Marvel comics. Currently, Douglas has played the role in 3 ‘Ant-Man’ installments and briefly appeared in ‘Endgame.’ But as it turns out, the actor has had a death wish for his character for quite a while now.

He recently appeared on ‘The View’ to promote his new Apple TV+ historical drama series ‘Franklin,’ and revealed that he wanted his character to die in the third installment, mostly because it would have been cool to utilize those special effects.

[Getting killed off] actually was my request for the third one. I said I’d like to have a serious [death], with all these great special effects. There’s got to be some fantastic way where I can shrink to an ant size and explode, whatever it is. I want to use all those effects. But, that was on the last one. Now, I don’t think I’m going to show up [for a fourth].

His last statement is more rooted in reality than fans are aware of. ‘Quantumania’ would have been the perfect sendoff for the character and it might make it a bit of a better movie since the released version didn’t quite land the mark with the fans. The movie was just in the first in a line of 2023 flops for Marvel Studios, and it barely broke even at the box office.

It’s not that the characters were uninteresting, the first two ‘Ant-Man’ installments were both critical and commercial success, especially when you take into account that Ant-Man is a relatively unknown character when it comes to your typical moviegoer, it’s the combination of superhero fatigue and bad writing. Recent, rumors pointed in the direction of both ‘Ant-Man 4’ and ‘Captain Marvel 3’ being canceled, as the studio wants to focus on “sure hits” and it looks like Ant-Man no longer warrants big box office and positive reviews.
