‘My Adventures With Superman’ Season 3 Promises Proper Adaptation of Long-Awaited Villain

‘My Adventures With Superman’ is an animated series that offers a fresh take on the classic Superman story. The series also focuses on a young Clark Kent as he begins his journey to becoming Superman. It also explores the early days of his relationship with Lois Lane and his friendship with Jimmy Olsen. The series is developed by Jake Wyatt, produced by Warner Bros. Animation, and animated by Studio Mir in South Korea

The second season of the show was recently released and we’ve learned that season 3 is already in production with the creators teasing plenty of things to be excited about.

If there’s one thing that the show is notable for it’s for inclusion of notable and iconic villains with a unique twist, and season 3 doesn’t seem like it’s going to change it.

In the first two episodes of ‘My Adventures With Superman’ Season 2, viewers saw new takes on Atomic Skull and Damage. Atomic Skull is a well-known Superman villain, while Damage is typically a hero in the comics. Both characters were effectively used by Amanda Waller to enhance Task Force X.

The second episode revealed that “Alex” is actually Lex Luthor, signaling major threats for Clark and his team. A character named Hank appeared at S.T.A.R. Labs and we assumed that it was going to be Hank Henshaw, who becomes the villain Cyborg Superman, possessing Superman’s powers and advanced technology.

Now fast forward to the season 3 tease, and sure enough you can see Cyborg Superman shown in the art, with a re-imagined classic look so notable for the show:

In episode 5, Henshaw reappears as a contestant on a dating show. He expresses his strong anti-Superman sentiment, concluding his speech and storming off with the statement, “Earth is for earthlings, Superman.”

Season 2 has already set the stage for Hank Henshaw to become Cyborg Superman. The main question for Season 3 is whether the show will stick to Henshaw’s comic origin—where a solar flare mutates him and his crew, leading him to blame and hate Superman—or adapt it to fit the series’ story better.

Cyborg Superman was adapted two times in DC projects. The first was in the ‘Legion of Superheroes’ episode ‘Message in a Bottle,’ where Cyborg Superman is portrayed as a robot caretaker rather than an antagonist. The second was in the CW’s ‘Supergirl,’ where Hank Henshaw is initially the Martian Manhunter in disguise, with the real Henshaw eventually appearing as Cyborg Superman. However, this adaptation was criticized for being convoluted and unsatisfactory.

Now season 3 of the upcoming show has an excellent opportunity to make an actually good version of the villain by sticking with the character’s origin story instead of trying to re-invent him into a worse version of himself.
