It’s Official, Jake Gyllenhaal and Mysterio Are A Homerun For Marvel

A picture speaks a thousand words. We’ve known for months that Jake Gyllenhaal is set to be the next villain that Spider-Man is to face. The news broke so early that some, myself included, had trouble believing it. That news is now a reality.
Captured from afar during a shoot in the Czech Republic, Gyllenhaal is clearly in his Mysterio costume. I, for one, am excited.
And why?
Not only is he one of the stranger villains in Spider-Man’s long history, he is also one of the most interesting. Not interesting in his backstory but interesting in what he can do. Mysterio might very well be the most suited for the computer-assisted effects that the movie will have.
Due to his reliance on special effects and trickery, Mysterio poses as both the greatest challenge and payoff in bringing to the big screen. He was, in a sense, created to for the movies. Remember he is a Hollywood stuntman and special effects genius.
While the pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal and Mysterio are fantastic, they aren’t without fault.
Where’s the fishbowl?
Similar to Black Manta, his helmet has become an integral part of the character. Without it, he looks off. I’m hoping that it is added during the digital effects stage.
Either way, filming has begun and Spider-Man Far From Home becoming a reality.
Mysterio debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #13 back in 1964. Mysterio is the creation of Hollywood stuntman and movie effects genius Quentin Beck.
Frustrated by the lack of respect and a few other things, Beck takes it upon himself to show the world what he’s made of. He takes his talents as a special effects artist and begins to create and utilize optical illusions to enter and further his criminal activities.
Unlike many other villains in Marvel, Mysterio does not have any powers. Instead, he relies on his craft, his knowledge of hypnosis and chemistry, his literal back of tricks, and his ability to work with robotics. At times, each of these has given him an edge over his competition because more often then not, his adversaries don’t know if they are battling him or an optical illusion.
Spider-Man Far From Home is set to release July 2019, just months after the yet titled Avengers 4 Movie.
Cheers,
Joel
