A Petition That’s Long Overdue Could Change The Comic Book Industry

Women in Comics Long Overdue

It may be obvious but the Marvel Cinematic Universe has logged a lot of mileage on the big screen. No matter how successful it has been, one question always baffles us fans. How come the long overdue all-female superhero movie has evaded us? Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Gamora, Lady Sif, Mantis, Nebula, Mystique, and the soon to be Captain Marvel are certainly more than enough characters to have it happen, so why hasn’t it? If the actresses that have portrayed these characters have been good (and they have) why do we still wait for the long overdue all-female superhero movie?

Wonder Woman

The world has more than proven we want it.

Wonder Woman, in her stand-alone movie, garnered much praise during its success. It showed that a movie with a leading lady can dominate the box office just like the counterpart males have. So why hasn’t there been more? Just look at what the industry has done for the likes of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans. Why can’t it do it for Pom Klementieff, Tessa Thompson, and Karen Gillan?

What I’m saying is that after the recent success of Wonder Woman, it’s time for females to take a little bit of the spotlight from the males. Let’s pry away the secondary treatment they often receive and give them the first-rate treatment that Wonder Woman showed they deserve.

Petition = Long overdue stopped

A petition was started and quickly signed by the actresses that have played these characters. This petition has sent the comic world into a frenzy. Tessa Thompson, Scarlett Johansson, Zoe Saldana, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan and Brie Larson and more want it. We want it. The world wants it. And we all want it bad.

Look, Avengers: Infinity War is coming and the Justice League is here. If these characters are good enough to step up against Thanos and Steppenwolf, then they are certainly good enough to step up against anyone.

Right?

Give us what we want and give us an all-female spin-off movie. Instead of long overdue, make it coming right up!

I urge you Marvel Studios and Warner Bros…make it happen.

Team up

How about Gotham City Sirens with Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn? How awesome would it be to have the movie not as heroes but rather, as villains? Think about it. Instead of a team of Justice League do-gooders, make the team the polar opposite?

Or, if the world wants to rally around a hero-filled team, how about the A-Force? This team is “led by She-Hulk, and also includes Captain Marvel, Medusa, Dazzler, Nico Minoru, Singularity herself, and a version of Dazzler that was a member of the Thor Corps on Battleworld.” With the high success of the Hulk played by Mark Ruffalo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it only makes sense to give a long overdue chance to his giant green cousin, She-Hulk. There would be no better time to introduce her as a character into the MCU.

Even take it back to the 1970’s with the Lady Liberators. This team is filled with characters we already know, so it wouldn’t be too hard.

  • Wasp
  • Scarlet Witch
  • Black Widow

X-23

Fox seems to be on the long overdue right path.

After Hugh Jackman retired his claws for good, it appears they have already found his replacement in Dafne Keen. They see what I see. They don’t need to recast a male lead. Their next star is sitting right in front of them. She is Laura Kinney, X-23.

Truthfully, at times, I felt like she carried the movie. Understand the importance of this statement. She was competing with Sir Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman and she carried the movie. Fox knows this and no matter how many times they screw up Fantastic Four, the won’t screw this up.

I can’t stress this enough. It’s time that the studio appreciate what they have and take female superheroes to the next level. Smarten up Marvel and smarten up DC.

End rant…

Cheers,

Jeff
