A Little History
It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman…
Before he was Clark Kent or Superman he was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton.
Just before their planet exploded and in fear of their son’s safety, Jor-El, Kryton’s greatest scientist, and Lara placed him in a pod and sent him to the distant planet, Earth. Soon after landing, young Cal-El was discovered by a family named the Kent’s (Johnathon and Martha). Initially, they dropped him off at an orphanage, but reconsidered this and adopted him themselves.
They quickly learned of Kal-El’s, now Clark Kent’s, abilities. They warned him that eventually, those around him would fear his powers, but urged him to overcome this and use them to benefit humanity.
10 years after his creation, his origin would be expanded upon. It was now said that the gravitational force of Krypton was much stronger than that of Earth’s and because of this, anyone born on Krypton, could defy the gravity of Earth. It would also be revealed that Superman gets his powers from Earth’s Yellow Sun. On his own planet, Krypton, he and his people would not have special powers, as the Sun of Krypton is Red.
Eventually, Martha died and Jonathon became gravely ill. On his deathbed, Jonathon advised Clark to keep his identity hidden but continue to keep humanity safe. At this point, Clark would decide that the best way to keep his “ear to the ground” would be to become a reporter for the Daily Planet. He would adopt his trademark glasses and pretend to be timid so that nobody would suspect that he was Superman. This might go down as the worst disguise in human history.
Like just about every other comic character, Superman’s story would be reimagined. This reimagining took place in the 1986 storyline “Man of Steel”. This retelling would maintain most of his previous story, but would put a strong focus on his teenage years and his dealings with his hometown, Smallville.
If you think that Superman is unbeatable, you think wrong. He does have a weakness and it comes in the form on Kryptonite. Kryptonite is small pieces of his home planet and can be used to bring Superman to his knees (not in the sexual way).
Finally, Superman has a woman in his life named Lois Lane. Yes, ladies, he is taken.
