A Little History

First appearing as a group in Fantastic Four #45, The Inhumans have grown to be one of Marvel’s most popular groups.

During the Kree-Skrull War, the Kree established a stronghold on the planet Uranus. They did so because they deemed it to be the perfect position between the two conflicting empires. Because of its proximity to Earth, the Kree took notice of the nearby Homo Sapiens. The more they studied them, the more they began to realize that these creatures were suitable for genetic modification. In short, they realized they could be modified to create a super race to battle the Skrulls.

The Kree were successful in creating a strain of enhanced humans. However, they cast them aside, fearing they would bring truth to a longstanding prophecy. It was foretold that the experiments would destroy the Kree Supreme Intelligence or their leader.

The fledgling race went on to create a society of its own. This society excelled in all areas of life and went on to become far more advanced than its human counterparts.

While some possess powers that do not change their appearance, others, like Gorgon, who has hooves for feet, and Triton, whose appearance resembles that of a fish, go through a transformation that drastically alters their appearance. They are led by Black Bolt, who can knock over a city with an utter of whisper and reside in Attilan.

First appearance

In their initial appearance, the Human Torch meets an Inhuman named Crystal, who has the power to control the elements. Mistakenly, Crystal believed him to be one of her species and brought him back to Attilan. A fight broke out as soon as the rest of her species realized he was not one of them.

At this point in time, the Inhumans had been hiding from one of their own named The Seeker. The Seeker had been charged with bringing unwelcomed Inhumans or those who had left Attilan back home. Unlike the way in which Inhumans are made, The Seeker believed that they gained their powers through natural mutation. This is not true, and they can their powers after being exposed to the Terrigen Mist.

Unable to blend in and live in fear, these Inhumans hid from the rest of the world.

The story goes on to explain that the Fantastic Four had encountered the Black Bolt led refugee Inhumans. Black Bolt and his refugees sought to take control of his land and returned home. There they faced off with the acting King, Maximus. During Black Bolt’s leave, Maximus had illegally taken control of the throne. Black Bolt confronted the acting King, Maximus, and immediately took back his throne.Â
