A Little History

Paradise Island has been the home of the Immortal Amazon women for 3000 years and in its existence, a child has never been born there. Diana is the daughter of Queen Hippolyta and was the first child born on Paradise Island.

The Amazons had been created around 1200 BC when the Greek Goddesses drew out the souls of all the women that had been murdered by men.

In the late 20th Century, Queen Hippolyta was ordered to use some clay from the shores of the island and mold it into the form of a baby girl. From there, six members of the Greek Pantheon bonded the left behind soul to the clay. Each of the Six Members the bestowed the baby a gift. These gifts included great strength, wisdom and courage, a hunter’s heart and a communion with animals, beauty and a loving heart, sisterhood with fire, speed and the power of flight.”

Things changed on Paradise Island when Diana rescued a fallen soldier named Steve Trevor. She brought him back to her island and helped him recover. Almost immediately, she fell for him.

Eventually, the Gods ordered that a woman must be sent into the man’s world to put an end to the War that was going on. Further to that, she must prevent another War from happening in the future. The Queen held a contest to see who would go but forbade Diana from participating. Upset, Diana took on a disguise and participated anyway. Unmatched in her abilities, she easily won.

Wonder Woman’s new origin

In The New 52 series, Wonder Woman’s origin story was largely revamped. She is no longer a being made out of clay conjured by  Hippolyta’s longings. Instead, Wonder Woman finds out that she was created in an old-fashion way, with no clay magic involved. Princess Diana is actually the daughter of the god Zeus and Queen Hippolyta. That explains all of her largely remarkable traits and abilities that differ from the rest of the Amazonian women, they can be traced back to her Demigoddess origin.

Equipment

Before departing for the mainland, she was given some items. These included indestructible bracelets, the royal tiara, the Lasso of Truth, and an Invisible airplane that she could control telepathically.

On her way back, she and Steve apprehended a Japanese enemy who they tied up using the Lasso of Truth. Once tied, the enemy gave up his secrets. Steve immediately told his superiors his secrets and because of this, was promoted.

Diana followed Steve around under the guise of a nurse. As a nurse, she was able to learn the military secrets and figure out where Wonder Woman was needed next.
