First Appearance: X-Men #1 September,1963
To quote Martin Luther King, Charles Xavier, “Had a dream.”
It was his dream and hope that one day humans and mutants alike would be able to live in peace and harmony. He had hopes that mutants would be able to be a part of society without fear of prejudice or discrimination.
Seeing a rising amount of anti-mutant sentiment around him, he created a safe house for mutants to come to. This house, located at 1407 Graymalkin Lane, in Westchester, New York became a home to mutants from all over the world.
His first recruits Cyclops, Angel, Jean Grey, Beast and Iceman would be the first trained in combat for the sake of bettering humanity. He named the team, The X-Men due to the extra gene that mutants possess that causes their mutation.
The X-Men would become increasingly large as time progressed and in December of 1970, the team would undergo a drastic change. This change would occur in the form of some key additional members to the team. The new members included: Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Banshee, Storm, Colossus, Sunfire and Thunderbird.
This would not be the last change to the line-up. Over the years, the X-Men have undergone a carousel of changes.
To this day, they continue to be one of Marvel’s most read books.
Below are just a few of the characters to be a part of this organization. Of course, as time passes, we will be adding more to the list.
