’28 Years Later’ Releases New Stills – Boyle & Garland Return to Rewrite Horror History in Explosive Sequel

’28 Years Later’ is an upcoming horror film set in a post-apocalyptic world, directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland. It’s the third movie in the ’28 Days Later’ series, starring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Cillian Murphy, who also acts as an executive producer.

Unlike the previous films, this one isn’t produced by 20th Century Studios. It’s a joint project between Columbia Pictures, the British Film Institute, Decibel Films, and DNA Films. The film will be released on June 20, 2025, and was filmed on an iPhone, along with its sequel, ’28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple.’

For now, the plot is mostly under wraps, but we do know some details regarding its general setting.

Nearly 30 years after the Rage Virus spread from a lab, some survivors live on a small island, cut off from the infected mainland by a heavily guarded causeway. When one survivor ventures into the mainland, they uncover shocking secrets and terrifying surprises about the world beyond.

Now Empire magazine has released the first stills from the movie ahead of the release of the March issue that will spotlight the movie. We can already guess that the prosthetics and makeup department will be really popular following the release. You can check out the gallery below:

Jodie Comer plays Isla, who is raising her son Spike with Jamie (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson). Spike has never known life before the infected took over.

Andrew Macdonald recently revealed that Cillian Murphy won’t appear in this installment but did not rule out the actor’s appearance in ‘Bone Temple,’ a sequel scheduled for release on January 16th, 2026.
