Who are Thor’s love interests in Marvel Comics and MCU?
The Norse God of Thunder is one of the most intriguing characters in comic book and cinematic history. For someone who’s lived several centuries, he’s had numerous love interests, though it always seems like there’s an enemy or family member determined to see his love life go up in flames.
This section will explore everyone Thor was romantically involved with in the comics and MCU as well.
In Marvel Comics:
Although canonically his focus is more battle-oriented, Thor still found time to be romantically involved with several characters in the comics. Some of his relationships were superficial, while others were not so much. That said, in Marvel Comics, Thor was involved with:
1. Jane Foster
The most famous of Thor’s love interests in the comics is Jane Foster. She first encountered Thor when he was the alter ego of Dr. Blake and she was his nurse. Thor later took her to Asgard where she was made a god. Things didn’t work out and Odin stripped her of her powers and banished her. Over the years though, they have been on and off.
2. Lady Sif
Sif, Lady of Asgard, is one of the most powerful women in the comics and she’s a skilled Asgardian warrior to boot. This is probably why Thor fell for her and was for a time betrothed to her. She was sent to him by Odin after the latter feared Thor’s relationship with Jane would drive him from the path to true godhood. Sif tried to live a normal mortal life to be with Thor but it was never possible. This is mostly due to interruptions from other women like Jane and Amora.
3. She-Hulk
In the recent storyline War of the Realms, Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk was exposed to a Celestial’s gamma energy which made her even bigger and ripped. Strong women have always enamored Thor It’s, therefore, no surprise that Thor was attracted to She-Hulk. The two kiss severally and make their relationship official but things fall apart as they go on separate adventures.
4. Valkyrie
Valkyrie is an Asgardian warrior and leader of the Valkyrior. She and Thor have a confusing history but she’s still one of his main love interests. In one story, Odin exiled them to live as mortals on Earth. In the storyline, Thor was Siegfried and Valkyrie was Brunnhilde.
The two of them fell in love and were married with no recollections of their past. Thor’s mortal form was killed and Brunnhilde went into the funeral pyre with him. Odin eventually restored their lives but with no memories of their time together on Earth. The two also had a relationship in the Ultimate Universe but when she died, Thor traded his soul for hers.
5. Enchantress
Amora the Enchantress is an Asgardian who specializes in spells and magic. She’s sometimes responsible for Thor’s tumultuous relationships and has often used her magic and charms to seduce Thor. One time, Thor willingly consented to a relationship with her.
In an alternate future, Thor becomes King of Asgard and is married to Amora who also bore a son for him. However, their relationship becomes a nightmare for Thor and he goes back in time to warn his younger self not to pursue the Enchantress.
6. Lorelei
Lorelei is Amora’s sister and she too has a penchant for magic. At Loki’s directive, she uses her power to convince Thor he’s in love with her. She goes along with it because she had the hots for him. Their time together is short-lived as Thor eventually discovers he’s under a spell.
7. Hela
The Ultimate Comics are well known for their odd twist of events. One of the strangest moments is Thor and Hela’s time together. Hela kidnaps Valkyrie and takes her dimension. To rescue Valkyrie, Thor decides to become Hela’s prisoner. However, Thor wanted to leave but Hela tells him he’d have to give her a baby first. While it wasn’t a proper relationship, the two were intimate for a while.
8. Moondragon
Moondragon is one of the most powerful psychics and she used her abilities to take over the minds of people on a whole planet. Drax, her father, enlists the help of the Avengers to help him stop her but Moondragon takes control of Thor and starts a relationship with him.
Other Thor love interests in the comics include Roz Solomon, Storm from Earth-20329, Shawna Lynde, and Bloodaxe.
In MCU
In the MCU, Thor was only ever involved with Jane Foster. Their relationship throughout the MCU has been tumultuous, to say the least, but it’s no secret that the two were meant for each other.
Dr. Jane Foster first encounters the God of Thunder in Thor (2011) after his banishment to Earth and the two eventually fall in love. At the end of the film, Thor becomes stranded in Asgard, searching for a way to get back to Earth so he could be with Jane.
It isn’t until the events of Thor: The Dark World (2013) that the two reunite after Jane is infused with the power source Aether. Once the Aether is removed and Jane returns to Earth, Thor tags along to rekindle their love.
In Thor: Ragnarok (2017), we find out that Thor and Jane broke up. A fan girl feels sorry that Jane dumped Thor but he responds that it was a mutual breakup. In Avengers: Endgame (2019), Thor travels to the past Asgard and is still distraught over their breakup. He’s unable to face past Jane.
The two again and more significantly rekindle their romance in the recent Thor: Love and Thunder. They’re reminded why they fell in love in the first place amidst the onslaught of Gorr the God-Butcher. To divulge more would be spoilers.
The bottom line: Is Thor gay, bisexual, or straight?
After analyzing Thor’s love interests through the comics and the MCU, it’s safe to say that Thor is straight. His love interests have always been women as we’ve already seen and there isn’t a moment in the comics or MCU that would show otherwise. He hasn’t been involved with a man in the comics or movies which would suggest he isn’t queer. Only ladies have gotten Thor’s love and thunder.
