The first Doctor Strange Movie was released in 2016, and since then, Stephen Strange has appeared in several Marvel movies. In this article, you can find all Doctor Strange movies in order, with his appearances in other movies included.

How many Doctor Strange movies are there?

There are currently two Doctor Strange stand-alone movies. The first movie, Doctor Strange, was released in 2016, and the second movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, five years later, in 2022. However, Doctor Strange also appeared in other Marvel movies: Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Doctor Strange movies are centered around Dr. Stephen Strange ( Benedict Cumberbatch ), a brilliant surgeon who experienced an accident that ended his medical career. Doctor Strange movies in order – at a glance

The first Doctor Strange movie was released in 2016, and since then, it has been clear that he is going to have an important role in the future events that are about to happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though Doctor Strange did not get his other stand-alone movie for six years until 2022, that is perfectly understandable. After the movie Doctor Strange, the sorcerer appeared in Thor: Ragnarok in 2017, where he met Thor and Loki and provided Thor with information about Odin’s whereabouts.

After that, Strange plays an important part in the movie Avengers: Infinity War (2019) and is one of the main strategists in the battle against Thanos. He reappears in Avengers: Endgame and joins the final clash down to defeat Thanos and his alien army. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, he helps Peter Parker when he gets into trouble regarding his identity. After all these events, Dr. Strange comes back in his stand-alone movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where he must stop Wanda Maksimoff’s bad intentions and save America Chavez. So, even though there are two Doctor Strange stand-alone movies, here is the list of movies with all Doctor Strange appearances:

  1. Doctor Strange (2016)
  2. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
  3. Avengers: Infinity War (2019)
  4. Avengers: Endgame (2020)
  5. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
  6. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

Doctor Strange played a very important part in saving the world from Thanos and his plans. He used his abilities to see all the possible outcomes of the outcoming conflict with Thanos, so he was able to hint at Avengers about what to do. After Thanos was defeated, he continued doing his important work as Earth’s protector against magical and mystical threats.

What is the best way to watch Doctor Strange movies?

The best way to watch all the movies where Doctor Strange appears is by watching them in order of release. And after watching those movies, you should watch Spider-Man: No Way Home and then Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Do you need to watch Doctor Strange movies in order?

It would be best to watch Doctor Strange movies and other movies where Doctor Strange appears by their release date. In the movie Doctor Strange, we get to see Strange’s origin story and his transformation from a successful and narcissistic surgeon to a whole different life of being a sorcerer. In Thor: Ragnarok, he is briefly introduced to Thor and Loki, and we get to see that he adapted to his new life rather well. This movie is not so important for Strange’s development as a character, though. After that, the battle against Thanos arises in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. In Infinity War, Strange’s role is very important as he is one of the main superheroes to confront Thanos, both as a tactician and as a fighter.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, he is trying to help Peter Parker when his identity is exposed to the world, and he makes a mistake in the process resulting in the multiverse being open. And finally, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has him dealing with forces and situations he has never experienced before. You should watch these movies in this order, as the storyline will make more sense that way.
