The Marvel Cinematic Universe is famous for its interconnected storyline and numerous easter eggs that reward eagle-eyed fans. The latest installment in the Thor series, Thor: Love and Thunder, is no exception, with fans buzzing about the numerous nods and winks to the comics and other films. What most people missed at the beginning but made a lot of sense with the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the depiction of one of the deities in the Omnipotent City.

We’ve decided to use this opportunity to explain this Namor easter egg in Thor: Love and Thunder in more detail and see what’s the connection between the feathered-serpent deity in the Omnipotent City and Black Panther’s Namor.

Thor: Love and Thunder easter egg that can be found in the Omnipotent City seems like a nod in the Namor’s direction

In Thor: Love and Thunder, we see Thor making his way to Omnipotent City in order to warn them about Gorr coming and ask for help to defeat him. If you’re not familiar with the Omnipotent City, it’s basically a meeting place and parliament inhabited by various gods from various mythologies. The place, judging by its name and its inhabitants, is extremely powerful since it’s mostly populated by actual deities. We can see Zeus presiding over the city but dealing mostly with matters not concerning the populations they are designated to protect, but only matters related to the gods themselves, like the sacrifice numbers.

We see a lively gathering of gods from over mythologies. We see the Graeco-Roman pantheon and the Egyptian pantheon. We even see the Celestials. One Reddit user also spotted one interesting god that hails from the Meso-American pantheon,  Kukulkan, a feathered serpent god.

The discussion in the comments is whether the Kukulkan seen in Omnipotence City is the same K’uk’ulkan we’ve seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, aka Namor.

How is Namor connected with Kukulkan seen in Thor: Love and Thunder?

Kukulkan, which was seen in Thor: Love and Thunder, is not Namor from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Even though the two share a name, they are not the same. Namor is directly inspired by him and worshiped by Talokanil as a replacement for the god. It’s unclear whether this was an intentional easter egg made by the executives. Still, in any case, it’s an interesting thing to see and probably winks in the direction of the upcoming Meso-American inclusions to the MCU.

Namor is Mayan in the MCU. His origin has been extremely revamped when compared to the comics. We know that Talokanil belonged to the tribe of the Yucatan Maya, and Kukulkan was worshiped by Yucatan Maya in the past. Still, obviously, that same Kukulkan we can see in Thor: Love and Thunder is not Namor.

For starters, Namor was dubbed K’uk’ulkan by his people because he was the strongest and the most capable among them. Due to his dual nature as Talokanil and mutant, Namor has some extra abilities that are not provided to the rest of his people. He can fly due to his ankle wings. He can breathe on the surface and is differently colored when compared to the rest of his people. Namor’s unique nature and his status as the strongest among Talokanil probably led his people to associate him with Kukulkan due to the similarities between the two. Namor is most likely seen as the avatar of the Feathered Serpent God instead of being him directly.

Does Namor Die in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever?

The other thing is Namor is too young to be a god, even though he is extremely long-lived and around 500 years old. He was born during the time when Mayans made first contact with the Conquistadors. At that time, Mayans also already had established a pantheon of their own gods, and one of them would certainly be Kukulkan. At the time that Namor was born, Mayans were already worshiping Kukulkan. Still, when Namor grew up and showcased his talents, they probably made the connection with their fabled savior and Namor and interpreted Namor as their “second coming” of Kukulkan.

In any case, it’s an interesting detail placed in the movie at the time when we weren’t exactly sure what form will Namor take in the MCU. And the attire that Kukulkan in the Omnipotence City wears, most notably his iconic headdress, can be seen being worn by Namor as well.
