Marvel Cinematic Universe presented us with many notable comic book characters during Phase 4. One of them is Moon Knight, a superhero with dissociative identity disorder who acts under numerous identities. The most notable are Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Locksley. When Spector dies in front of the statue of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, he is suddenly revived. Moon Knight is born and becomes a fearful protector of people. The series presented us with the character in detail, and fans could see various personas and identities of this unique character. Of course, Moon Knight went through a long journey worldwide to discover some things about himself, and this article will present you with all known locations of Disney+’s Moon Knight TV series.

Moon Knight was filmed in numerous locations worldwide. A few include Budapest, Hungary; Brixton Area in London, UK; Osilnica, Slovenia; Atlanta, U.S.; and Jordan. Besides Budapest, most of the series was filmed across Hungary and smaller locations like Szentendre, Pest, and more.

What is Moon Knight about?

MCU Phase 4 produced a lot of characters in the last few years and expanded the plot from Earth to the rest of the cosmos. Supernatural elements became more prominent in the MCU, starting with Spider-Man: No Way Home and WandaVision. Moon Knight falls into that category well since its character is an avatar of the ancient Egyptian god of the moon, Khonshu, Marc Spector, Steven Grant, or any other persona, using their powers to protect the innocent.

Jeremy Slater created Disney+’s Moon Knight, while executive producers consisted of Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and more. The cast of actors included Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac, May Calamawy, Ethan Hawke, and Karim El Hakim.

The series follows Marc Spector, a mercenary with a dissociative identity disorder. His life abruptly changes when an Egyptian god of the moon, Khonshu, revives him and tasks him with protecting the innocent with his newfound powers. Of course, other personalities arise in Marc, and Steven Grant makes an appearance and others. Moon Knight received positive reviews from critics, most of its darker tone than the rest of the MCU projects and the main cast’s performances.

Now that we reminded you of Moon Knight’s premise let’s discuss the filming locations of the Disney+ show.

Marvel’s Moon Knight filming locations

Production and creation of Moon Knight started around November 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic was still in full force. The filming for the show lasted almost a year, starting in November 2020 and ending in October 2021, which included various filming locations worldwide to represent the character of Moon Knight as faithfully as possible.

Even with numerous locations, showrunners couldn’t film their Egyptian scenes in Cairo since the government there is very restrictive. However, there are still many great locations the Disney production chooses for their show, some of which will surprise you.

Most of the filming occurred in Hungary, and the production stayed the longest in this European country.

Budapest, Hungary

We already mentioned that Moon Knight mostly filmed its scenes in Hungary, despite our main protagonists, Marc and Steven, residing in different locations in the show. For example, in Moon Knight, Steven Grant works as a gift-shop employee at the British Museum in London. The museum has the second-largest collection of Ancient Egypt objects in the world – his “hallucinations” happen there. The interior of the Egyptian collection is filmed in the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, located in Heroes’ Square.

The scene where Steven waits for his date to appear is filmed in Budapest as well, specifically, a restaurant called Tróger Gasztró Bisztró, which set designers had to change to look more “Londonesque.”

TV series adapted from comic books always have hidden easter eggs hardcore fans catch on to. Moon Knight has a lot of, and in the show’s first episode, a living statue references the character from the Moon Knight comics, and the filming location was quite familiar to some people. Once again, the filming spot is located near the ARCadia Hotel in the center of Budapest.

The second episode of the series saw our protagonist finally turning into Moon Knight and presenting us with the headquarters of Arthur Harrow and his followers. The industrial atmosphere was also caught and filmed in Hungary, but this time in an old factory located south of the capital city.

Budapest is featured again in the Moon Knight scene, and this time, the rooftop and chase scenes are filmed at the Vajdahunyad Castle in the capital city of Hungary. This castle was featured in other popular projects, like the Witcher series.

Szentendre, Hungary

Arthur Harrow, a religious zealot and cult leader, appears in Moon Knight when Steven Grant ends up in the Austrian village in the middle of the cult mass. The supposed Austrian village is actually a small but charming town of Szentendre, located on the left side of the Danube river.

Osilnica, Slovenia

One of the more exciting scenes of the Moon Knight series is the car chase at the beginning. Fans see firsthand how Marc and Steven constantly change their personalities and put themselves in dangerous situations. That particular scene was filmed in Osilnica, Slovenia, where twisty roads made of twenty turns attract many tourists yearly to Slovenia and lovers of extreme sports.

Wadi Rum, Jordan

Next, we have the deserts of supposed Egypt, where Marc fully embraces Moon Knight and starts his journey as the Avatar of the Egyptian god. The deserts of the Wadi Rum reservation in Jordan are among the most impressive and beautiful deserts in the world. Some people will recognize this location for filming other Disney projects, like Star Wars, while others will recognize Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.

Atlanta, Georgia

The green screen and CGI are important for fantasy shows like Moon Knight. Despite the efforts to use natural scenes as much as possible, Disney filmed their CGI scenes in Atlanta, Georgia, specifically Pinewood Studios. The notable filming studio was rebranded a few years ago and now bears the name “Trilith Studios.” Moon Knight isn’t the only project filmed there; other A-list Hollywood projects use Trilith as their “CGI go-to” location.

Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom

The Pinewood Studios also has its own headquarters in England, specifically Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire. We don’t know which specific scenes were filmed in the Pinewood Studios, but if we had to judge the CGI scenes from the show, they did a pretty good job.
