Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn’t hesitate to give us as much content as possible every year on both big and small screens, and this year is no different. Following the conclusion of Phase 4 with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever last year, the MCU started its next chapter with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which not only started Phase 5 but also made the first real step towards Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the next crossover event which is set to arrive in May 2025. But before we get there, we got two more years’ worth of movies to watch, so let’s see what movies Marvel is offering us this year.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Release date: February 17, 2023. Now playing exclusively in theaters. Coming soon to Disney+

Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the original Ant-Man movie in 2015. They both returned in the sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018 and Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Four years later, they’re back on another adventure that isn’t just here to conclude the Ant-Man trilogy but also introduce Kang the Conqueror, the main villain of this Multiverse Saga. Jonathan Majors, who played Nathaniel Richards in the Loki series, reprised the role of Nathaniel’s evil variant Kang, and he’s set to return as the main villain once again in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in May 2025. The road to The Kang Dynasty has begun!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Release date: May 5, 2023

We won’t lie; there’s a good number of fans that parted ways with the MCU after the conclusion of Infinity Saga in 2019. Still, even those fans won’t be able to ignore the third installment of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. This team first joined the MCU in 2014 in their own movie directed by Gunn, and after returning for the sequel in 2017, Guardians joined the Avengers in a battle against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. After briefly seeing them again in Thor: Love and Thunder and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, this team will finally reach the final chapter in the last installment of the Guardians trilogy. Gunn promised us a movie with lots of laughs and emotions, and it’s certain we’ll say farewell to at least one Guardian with tears in our eyes. This movie can’t come soon enough.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Release date: June 2, 2023

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was released in December 2018, and the movie was a huge hit for Sony Pictures. The movie received widespread acclaim, grossed $384.3 million worldwide, and won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, breaking Disney’s tradition of winning that award after six years. The sequel Across the Spider-Verse was initially announced as a two-part conclusion of the story before the third installment was renamed Beyond the Spider-Verse. This movie is set to introduce a lot more variants of Spider-Man from across the entire Multiverse and set the ground for the finale of the trilogy in Beyond the Spider-Verse next year.

Kraven the Hunter

No trailer is available yet

Release date: October 6, 2023

Sony Pictures is still trying to build its own Marvel Universe, and even though two Venom movies and Morbius received mixed to negative reviews, Sony isn’t ready to give us yet. This year we’re getting another movie with another anti-hero — Kraven the Hunter. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who played Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron, now joins the Sony Marvel Universe as Kraven the Hunter, and the movie will also star Ariana DeBose as Calypso, a voodoo priestess and Kraven’s love interest, and Fred Hechinger as Chameleon, Kraven’s half-brother. The movie also stars Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, and Russell Crowe in undisclosed roles.

The Marvels

No trailer is available yet

Release date: November 10, 2023

Brie Larson joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain Marvel in her solo movie of the same name in 2019 before she joined the Avengers in Avengers: Endgame only two months later. Captain Marvel is known as one of the most powerful MCU heroes, and in the sequel, titled The Marvels, she’ll be accompanied by Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, who joined the franchise in the WandaVision series on Disney+, and Iman Vellani, who joined the franchise as Ms. Marvel in her own series on Disney+ last year. Samuel L. Jackson is also set to reprise the role of Nick Fury, and Zawe Ashton has been cast as an unknown villain.
