It’s been more than two months since the latest MCU movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, premiered in theaters. The movie grossed $473.3 million worldwide, which isn’t really a good result for a movie with a budget of $200 million, and the movie received mixed reviews. On the other hand, this movie was the first real step towards the next MCU crossover event, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is set to be released in May 2025.
Today, Marvel Studios officially announced that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be released on Digital on April 18, with over 2 hours of extra content. And if you want this movie in your Blu-Ray collection, you’ll need to wait until May 16. There’s still no word on when the movie will arrive on Disney’s official streaming platform, Disney+.
Ant-Man was introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in his own solo movie in 2015, which concluded Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Paul Rudd received praise for his performance of Scott Lang, and Evangeline Lilly debuted as Hope Van Dyne before she became the superhero known as the Wasp in the sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018. The Ant-Man franchise also stars Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, the original, former Ant-Man, Hope’s father, and Scott’s mentor.
After starring in two standalone Ant-Man movies, Paul Rudd reprised the role in Avengers: Endgame in 2019, and Quatumania was his first movie set after the conclusion of the Infinity Saga. Given that Ant-Man and the Wasp are some of the first MCU heroes that encountered Kang the Conqueror, the main villain of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, it’s presumed that these heroes will have a large role in the upcoming Avengers movie. The same can be said for Cassie Lang, Scott’s daughter who became a superhero known as Stature in Quantumania. She was portrayed in Quantumania by Kathryn Newton.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania concluded the Ant-Man trilogy and set up the stage for the next appearance of Kang the Conqueror in the MCU. The movie will soon be available on Digital and Blu-Ray, so now we wait for its Disney+ release date.
