Every Avengers Movie Ranked (From Worst To Best)

The Avengers are the most popular and well-known team in Marvel comics and the MCU. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created them in the early 1960s. Avengers, or “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” originally consisted of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man, and the Wasp, with Captain America joining in issue #4. Their main purpose is to team up when they need to battle especially formidable villains, but each character has independent stories.
As we know, the Avengers in the sense of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are a little bit different. Everything started in 2008 with a post-credits scene of the first Iron Man and MCU movie, with Nick Fury as an initiative he created. The idea was expanded in the second Iron Man movie when we met Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow. The first time we see the Avengers assemble was in 2012 in the first Avengers film. Then they reunite again in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The big culmination of the Avengers incitive and Marvel’s Infinity saga was in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. So, let’s rank Avengers movies from worst to best.
4. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Avengers: Age of Ultron is the eleventh film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, written and directed by Joss Whedon. It features all your favorite Avengers: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Black Widow. In this movie, we are introduced to Wanda and Pietro Maximoff.
In this film, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner create Ultron, an artificial intelligence that wants to create world peace by killing all humans. But it all starts when Iron Man, Thor, Bruce Banner, Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye raid a Hydra facility where they do experiments on humans.
There they meet two test subjects- Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. Pietro has superhuman speed, and Wanda has telepathic and telekinetic abilities. Plus, Tony finally retrieves Loki’s scepter. Tony and Bruce using the gem inside the scepter, accidentally create Ultron. Ultron becomes sentient and is convinced he must eradicate humanity to save Earth. The AI teams up with the Maximoff twins to cause trouble for the Avengers. By the end, Pietro gets killed, and the Avengers, as we know them disband.
This film is definitely the weakest in the Avengers, even though it introduces some significant plot points. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, we meet Wanda Maximoff, a very important character in the future. Also, Vision is created in this installment. Not to mention, the ending of this movie sets the stage for Captain America: Civil War. And above all else, in the mid-credit scene, Thanos shows us the gauntlet and vows to collect all the Infinity stones. This almost exonerates this film for having a generic villain and story that feels like a stepping stone to get into something more important.
3. The Avengers (2012)
Let’s go back to basic. The first Avengers movie was definitely a game-changer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was the final movie of Phase One, written and directed by Joss Whedon. It was praised for its visual effects (it has more than 2,200 visual effects shots), acting, action sequences, and music. Not to forget, it grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide, and it was the highest-grossing film of 2012.
The story follows Loki as he gets a hold of the Tesseract and enslaves Dr. Erik Selvig and Hawkeye to help him in his evil plan. In response to this, Fury activates the “Avengers Initiative.” Stark, Banner, Romanoff, Rogers, Thor, and Barton team up on the streets of New York to battle an army of Chitauri. In a heroic endeavor, Hulk beats up Loki, and Iron Man intercepts a missile from the World Security Council and takes it through the wormhole toward the Chitauri fleet. And save Manhattan and the rest of the world. In the end, Thor returns Loki to Asgard to face the music.
The Avengers was a more-or-less, unique movie at the time of release. Comic book fans have waited decades for these characters to assemble on the big screen. This movie feels like a self-contained story in a bigger universe. Even though it features scenes that are considered corny now, like a faceless army and a big sky beam, they did it first. This movie is so low on the list because it just can’t compete with the other two amazing films we have on this list.
2. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Avengers: Infinity War is the 21st movie in the MCU, it came out in 2018, and the Russo brothers directed it. It features an ensemble cast including Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldaña, Chris Pratt, and Josh Brolin.
This an action movie through and through. Thanos is hunting for all six Infinity Stones and will pay any price to succeed in his plan to wipe out half the universe. Avengers create small groups and try to fight Thanos one show-down at a time. Nevertheless, everything leads to a big battle in Wakanda, where Thor nearly kills Thanos. Ultimately, all was in vain, and Thanos managed to prevail.
This film leaves the audience in shock. It has a sad ending, with our heroes defeated. This left fans wanting more to discover how our heroes will rise above this. The only reason why this film doesn’t take first place is because Avengers: Endgame has more of an emotional impact. Avengers: Endgame is like a bittersweet reward for all the pain we suffered in Avengers: Infinity War.
1. Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Avengers: Endgame definitely deserves the top position. This epic blockbuster movie is one of the most expensive movies ever made. It features an amazing cast of amazing actors playing lovable characters and serves as an epic resolution of the Infinity saga. I premiered in April 2019 with record-breaking box office numbers, and the Russo brothers directed it.
The movie’s plot is very complex, follows several plotlines, and has many easter eggs. Everything starts when Ant-Man returns from the Quantum Realm. His knowledge of the Quantum Realm helps the Avengers crack time travel. So, they plan to collect all the Infinity stones before Thanos by returning in time. This leads to an epic showdown where all our favorite heroes come together. In the end, the world is saved, but we lose Iron Man and Captain America.
Avengers: Endgame is a film full of emotional, tear-jerking moments. This is what makes Endgame a superior movie to Infinity War. The hype around this movie was almost unmatched, everyone wanted to see it at the premiere to see how the saga ended, and this movie delivered. And above everything, in this film, Captain America says, “Avengers assemble” while wielding Mjolnir, a moment that will be discussed in years to come.
