The opening weekend for the MCU’s latest movieGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — is now behind us. The movie is gathering positive reviews, and some fans are even calling it the best Marvel movie since Endgame. You may or may not agree with that, but it’s for sure that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a much-needed win for Marvel Studios after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania finished its theatrical run as the lowest-grossing MCU sequel, despite all the Kang hype.

As thoughts are settling in for the newest Guardians of the Galaxy installment, some fans started to look for more details the movie is hiding under its hood, and one of the most obvious ones, which you probably noticed at first viewing, is how Star-Lord didn’t wear his signature helmet, nor his boots with thrusters we’ve seen in previous two Guardians movie. Thankfully, the movie’s director and writer James Gunn is very active on social media, so he decided to give fans an answer.

Why Star-Lord didn’t wear his mask and boots with thrusters in Volume 3?

One of the fans asked Gunn why Peter Quill didn’t have his helmet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Gunn answered in a quoted tweet so that all of his followers could see. Gunn explained how Star-Lord left his helmet in a drawer in Knowhere since he was in a hurry to leave and save Rocket’s life. Additionally, Gunn explained that Star-Lord isn’t using his boots with thrusters since they proved to be inferior to Rocket’s aero-rigs we first saw in Vol. 2, so those thrusters on boots are simply outdated.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is simultaneously handling two storylines. The first primary storyline follows Peter Quill and the rest of the Guardians as they’re trying to save their dying friend Rocket, while the secondary storyline shows us flashback scenes of Rocket when he was younger, explaining us his origin story and the grudge he holds against the movie’s main villain — The High Evolutionary.

James Gunn has been developing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 since he finished his work on Vol. 2 in 2017. Although, he also made The Suicide Squad and the Peacemaker series for DC in the meantime. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn’s work at Marvel Studios is now finished, and now he’s focused on his next job since he was hired last year as the creative director of DC Studios. He’s also set to write and direct Superman: Legacy, the upcoming movie which will kick off DCU, a new cinematic universe Gunn planned with Peter Safran.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters worldwide.
