When it comes to Spider-Man, is one of the rare superheroes in Marvel Comics whose original character is still the “main” superhero. Specifically, Peter Parker is the “original,” and everyone else is another version of him. Miles Morales is one of many alternate versions of Spider-Men, but the teenager became quite popular throughout the years, especially after the Secret Wars comic book event. The Ultimate Universe, specifically, Earth-1610, joined the main continuity making Miles Morales the second Spider-Man in the city of New York. Of course, Peter Parker and Miles Morales have their special powers, but they have one thing in common – they both use the web in combat. We will determine if Miles uses web shooters or organic webbing.

Miles Morales uses mechanical web shooters and organic webbing. The reason why he’s using web shooters is because they were given to him by Peter’s Aunt May after Spider-Man of Earth-1610 tragically died at the hands of Green Goblin. Eventually, Miles gets an upgraded pair from S.H.I.E.L.D., specifically, his world’s Jessica Drew. Miles does have his special bio-electric webbing, which does resemble the usual Spider-Man web and makes the superhero more versatile.

Despite being very similar to each other, Peter Parker and Miles Morales are also quite different. Miles is a truly modern version of Spider-Man. He mostly uses his bio-electric generation, but having it as a non-fatal weapon is always great, especially for crime fighting. We will discuss Miles’s powers and mention the popular version of Spider-Man, which uses the organic web.

There is one version of Spider-Man that kickstarted a trend of organic webbing

One of the biggest debates since the release of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man in 2002 is his combat equipment. The first Spider-Man movie in the Raimi franchise was praised for following Marvel Comics closely. However, one interesting detail was quite different from the original Spider-Man – Tobey Maguire’s version of the character had organic web shooters.

The Spider-Man movie from 2002, directed by Sam Raimi (Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness), was an instant hit among the fans. Spider-Man comic book fans praised how Peter Parker lore was introduced on the big screen, but the hero’s general look made that specific version of the character so good.

In retrospect, you could criticize Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of Peter Parker, who sometimes made the fan-favorite character a bit weird, but generally, fans loved him. Of course, Spider-Man’s iconic outfit made the character memorable, and Maguire’s portrayal of the superhero was well-received. But the aforementioned organic “webbing” made some dedicated fans unhappy.

In Marvel Comics, Peter Parker from Earth-616 is a genius who gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gains powers over the arachnid. He gets superhuman physical powers, can climb on the walls, and can sense danger with Spidey Sense, but what Peter Parker added to his “arsenal” is the ability to shoot webs.

He creates web shooters, installs them on his wrists, and uses them to shoot a web at enemies or web-slinging across New York. Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man propelled comic book writers to write in some other versions of Peter Parker or Spider-Man with organic webbing. When asked about those creative decisions, Raimi answered that he felt that Peter Parker inventing those devices at his age was too much and unrealistic in the wider sense of things. The director also added that he felt that the radioactive spider could affect Peter’s mutation more, including his biology, or in this case, organic web.

Does Miles Morales have an organic web?

We mentioned that some comic book writers used Raimi’s Spider-Man movie to implement some details in their versions, but when it comes to Miles Morales, comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis didn’t follow the same path and created an alternate version of Spider-Man, a character named Miles Morales.

Miles Morales was part of the Ultimate Comics, an African-Latino teenager who stumbles across a spider enhanced with Oz formula and gets bitten by it. The teenager’s body becomes stronger; he gains powers like superhuman physiology and other powers and abilities that even the original Peter Parker didn’t have.

When Peter Parker of Earth-1610 dies, Miles Morales is left with the burden of becoming a new Spider-Man. However, after the reluctance, Aunt May and Gwen Stacy of Earth-1610 encourage Miles to become the hero the world needs and continue Peter Parker’s legacy as Spider-Man.

When Miles chooses to become a new Spider-Man, Aunt May gifts him Peter Parker’s mechanical web-shooters. This indicates that Miles Morales doesn’t have organic webbing like Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. Moreover, when Nick Fury of Earth-1610 meets the new Spider-Man, the man gives Miles improved web shooters developed by S.H.I.E.L.D.

Miles’ character stuck with the original premise of Spider-Man established decades ago, but there is a possibility that Miles could shoot his “webs” without web shooters. Let’s discover why?

Can Miles shoot webs without web shooters?

When a spider bit Miles, his version of the arachnid was genetically enhanced by Oz formula, which gives the teenager very special powers. Besides the usual superhuman physiology, wall-climbing, and others, Miles could go invisible and generate electricity.

This particular power is very strong and useful, and it gives Miles the ability to create Venom Blasts, Venom Bean, Venom Punch, and even create bio-electric constructs that give him the ability to create various weapons, like a sword.

But Miles’ creativity regarding his energy manipulation doesn’t stop there – he can create bio-electric threats from his hands with the same tensile prehensility as his web fluid. He uses bio-electric threads to swing across New York and fight his enemies.

Miles has both, and he uses mechanical web-shooters filled with web fluid and bio-electric threads in combat and fast movement. Moreover, Miles discovered that he could even project controlled Venom Blast and jump or transport in faster ways than with his mechanical web-shooters.

So, yes, Miles could most definitely shoot the web without web shooters since he does have access to his bio-electricity, and boy, does this make Miles versatile in combat. Technically, he wouldn’t be the only one using “organic/electric” webbing on silver screens – Miles is there to push the stakes even higher.
