It’s a well-known story- a high-school kid got bitten by a radioactive spider, and the rest is history. Over the years, we got the opportunity to enjoy many Spider-Man movies, and each brought something different to the big screen. There is something to enjoy in all of them, but it is fair to say that some movies are slightly better than others. In that regard, we bring you a ranked list of every Spider-Man movie, from worst to best.

9. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ is the first movie on this ranking list, and there is a good reason for that. Apart from great visual effects and the chemistry between Peter and Gwen, the movie is mostly disappointing. It is fun and enjoyable to watch, especially if you are a fan of superhero movies, but compared to other movies on this list, it has the most flaws.

Electro is the main villain, and considering his powers and abilities, one would think that opposing him alone would be enough for Spider-Man. However, a new version of Green Goblin was introduced, and the Rhino also appeared. None of it would be a problem if this movie got its sequel as intended. But since that did not happen, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ gets ranked last.

8. Spider-Man 3

We had speculated about which direction ‘Spider-Man 3’ is headed since its predecessor’s end when Harry discovered the Green Goblin’s facility. However, what followed was a bit overwhelming. This movie had Spider-Man dealing with multiple villains and his darker alter-ego due to the influence of an alien symbiote. At times, it felt like three movies compressed into one, and unfortunately, that was reflected in the result.

While the idea of showcasing numerous villains like Sandman, Green Goblin, and Venom was promising, there simply wasn’t enough time and space to adequately develop and explore the arcs of such significant characters in a single movie. As a result, the movie is remembered as fast-paced, with too many events happening simultaneously.

7. The Amazing Spider-Man

In this reboot following the original trilogy, Spider-Man is portrayed as a college student who meets Gwen Stacey. That’s one good aspect of this movie. However, what falls short compared to the original trilogy is Spider-Man himself. According to many, Andrew Garfield didn’t embody Spidey’s character as successfully as Tobey Maguire, and I would have to agree with that. The movie itself is not that bad, but when comparing the thrill brought by villains like the Green Goblin or Doctor Octopus, it’s fair to say that The Lizard doesn’t meet those criteria.

The movie presents an interesting theory about Peter’s parents and their past, which brings a refreshing element compared to previous movies. However, in the overall ranking, the movie is rightfully placed in this position.

6. Spider-Man

‘Spider-Man’ movie was special mainly because it provided Spidey’s origin story and kickstarted the first Spider-Man trilogy. In this one, Peter is a geeky high-school student in love with MJ, and as you probably guessed-gets bitten by a spider. Peter goes through many changes and faces life tragedies that teach him that with great power comes great responsibility. He also has to discover what kind of hero he wants to be.

The main villain in the movie is Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, who is perhaps the most memorable character from the movie. ‘Spider-Man’ is an entertaining movie that achieved its primary goal of bringing Spider-Man to the big screen, and it rightly holds its place compared to other movies on this list.

5. Spider-Man: Far From Home

This movie has an emotional touch as it follows Tony’s death, and Peter has to cope with losing his mentor and someone he admired. Iron Man’s sacrifice profoundly impacted Peter, and he struggled with his new role, where much more was expected of him. He is still a boy who needs support, and the dangers he faces seem to grow. Peter tries to balance his life as a high school student and his secret identity as Spider-Man while attempting to win over MJ.

Mysterio emerges as someone Peter sees as a stable figure and willingly entrusts Stark’s technology to him. However, this turns out to be a big mistake, and Mysterio becomes the main villain. Yet, the concept of holograms as the primary threat doesn’t convey the impression of the significant dangers that the MCU has accustomed us to. Ultimately, Peter’s identity is exposed, setting the stage for the next installment in the franchise.

4. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Since we saw Tom Holland as Spider-Man in ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ we couldn’t wait for his first standalone movie. The movie didn’t disappoint; it integrated Spider-Man into the entire MCU and connected him to events after the ‘Avengers.’ This version of Peter Parker is still a high school kid trying to impress Tony Stark to earn his place among the Avengers.

What makes the movie special and intriguing is the fact that Spider-Man has a suit filled with gadgets from Stark Industries, and Michael Keaton was convincing as the main villain, Vulture. The movie portrays Spider-Man as a boy who is not yet fully prepared to handle the responsibilities and dangers that lurk, which is somewhat realistic. All that taken into account, the movies belove are slightly better regarding storyline and popularity.

3. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

This is a groundbreaking animated superhero movie and the only animated movie on this list. ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and rightfully so. The movie follows the journey of Miles Morales, a teenager from Brooklyn who becomes the Spider-Man of his reality after being bitten by a radioactive spider. However, Miles soon discovers he is not alone in his web-slinging adventures.

The movie introduces us to different versions of Spider-Man from parallel universes, each with its own unique abilities and backstories, and is visually stunning. Even though we got used to seeing Peter Parker as Spider-Man, this movie was a welcomed refreshment, and we can’t wait for a sequel that is on its way.

2. Spider-Man: No Way Home

This movie was a dream come true for all Spider-Man fans out there. After Peter’s identity is revealed, Peter asks Doctor Strange to help him. In a spell gone wrong, many characters from different universes come face to face with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. This leads to an exciting team-up and collaboration of characters we could only hope to see together on the big screen.

Villains like Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, and The Lizard are back, initially a bit confused but ultimately more menacing than ever. It’s too much for one Spidey to handle alone, so we get to enjoy a team-up of three Spider-Men as Tobey and Andrew return as Spider-Men of their Earth as well. The overall storyline could be better, but it is a treat to watch, nevertheless.

1. Spider-Man 2

Although nearly 20 years have passed since ‘Spider-Man 2’ aired, many consider it the best Spider-Man movie to date. And I agree. The movie has a ‘head and a tail,’ which is important in superhero movies. Spider-Man confronts Doctor Octopus, and their conflicts are filled with excellent action scenes and meaningful dialogue. In the background of all that, we can also see Peter trying to balance his life as a superhero with his personal life and how Harry gradually becomes a version of his father.

And while MCU Spider-Man movies may be more popular today, this is the number one Spider-Man movie for me and the first one that comes to mind when I think of the vast array of movies about the famous web-slinger.
