A Little History
Angel first appeared as a founding member of the mutant team known as the X-Men. Warren Worthington III was born into a family that bleeds wealth and money. Even though he had everything that he could possibly want, Warren continuously worried his parents with his adventurous demeanor and risk-seeking attitude.
As a way of learning some degree of discipline, his parents sent him to a boarding school. While in attendance, young Warren exceeded all expectations in all facets of life. This included both academically and athletics. While at the reform school, Warren began to notice that his body was changing. Like many others, Warren learned that he was a mutant and his body was beginning to mutate. As a by-product of his mutation, he began to grow adult size wings from his shoulders.
One night, while at school, a fire broke out. Being able to fly, Warren was easily able to escape. Not wanting to leave his fellow students behind, he gathered together costume pieces to disguise himself as an angel and flew back to save the others.
Ever the egotistic, Warren like the feeling that came along with being a costumed hero. He took it upon himself to create a costume so that he may fly around and prevent criminals from conducting crimes. Becoming aware of Warren, Professor X sent both Cyclops and Iceman to recruit Angel to the X-Men.
The two caught up with Warren just as he returned from thwarting some criminals. It turns out that they were attempting to steal a vile filled with chemicals. Professor X, seeing that the vile was reacting to Angel, telepathically sent a message warning Cyclops and Iceman of the impending danger. Initially, Warren resisted the two, even so far as to fight with both. Eventually, Professor X was able to warn Angel of the danger and he flew the vile up high into the atmosphere.
With his wings frozen from the altitude, Angel began to fall back to Earth. Luckily, Professor X was able to telepathically guide him back down. This act resulted in Angel joining the X-Men.
