It’s August 2023, and at this moment, the Marvel Cinematic Universe already released three projects this year, and there are three more to go. The franchise’s Phase 5 opened up with ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ in February, and since then, we also watched ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ in theaters (now streaming on Disney+) and the ‘Secret Invasion’ series on Disney+.
While the third and final installment of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ trilogy received acclaim from fans, ‘Quantumania’ and ‘Secret Invasion’ weren’t that fortunate, and it only remains to be seen how will the rest of this year’s MCU projects, ‘The Marvels,’ ‘Loki’ Season 2, and ‘Echo’ will do. But also, some fans are already looking forward to 2024, although that release schedule is currently on thin glass due to the ongoing strikes in Hollywood.
‘The Bear’ star talks about joining the upcoming MCU movie!
‘Thunderbolts,’ one of the MCU movies that are set to arrive in 2024 (according to the current schedule at least), was officially announced at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con as one of the special announcements. The movie is set to assemble seven already-known MCU characters; Yelena Belova, Winter Soldier, US Agent, Taskmaster, Ghost, Red Guardian, and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
But apart from this main squad, the movie will also introduce some new characters and one of them will be played by the Primetime Emmy Award-nominee Ayo Edebiri. Although we still don’t officially know who Edebiri will portray in the upcoming MCU project, she didn’t hesitate to share her excitement about joining the franchise.
“I love being a sponge. I just want to learn as much as possible. I’m excited [for ‘Thunderbolts’] because I don’t know, and to me, that’s cool. I feel like those are always the situations that I’ve benefited from the most. If I don’t know what I’m going to learn, that’s the best possible scenario for me.”

In the Marvel Comics canon, the Thunderbolts are members of the antihero team of the same name. While it would be easy to call them “Marvel’s Suicide Squad,” this team mostly consists of reformed supervillains. Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley first created the team, and it first appeared in ‘The Incredible Hulk’ Volume 2 in January 1997.
Apart from the principal cast, Harrison Ford has also signed to play Thaddeus Ross, replacing the late actor William Hurt. Steven Yeun has also been cast in an undisclosed role. The plot is also kept under wraps.
Written by Lee Sung Jin and directed by Jake Schreier, the ‘Thunderbolts’ movie is set to be released on December 20, 2024, at least for now.
