The world of comic books is very interesting and appealing for many reasons. We can say that it’s easier to create a popular character than to keep it interesting, and considering that some popular characters have existed for many decades now, it surely isn’t easy to come up with original and fresh stories. Of course, when you have a concept of the Multiverse on your side, which allows you to create numerous different versions of the same character, that can also be quite intriguing and worth exploring. In this article, we’ll dig into many different versions of Thor, including comics and the MCU, to tell you if he has a daughter.
In the Marvel Comics canon, Thor has no children in the Prime Universe (Earth-616), but his alternate variants from different universes have. Some of the known Thor’s daughters in the Multiverse are Thena Thorsdóttir (Earth-982), Brigid Thorsdottir (Earth-20368), and several versions of Torunn Thorsdóttir (Earth-TRN591, Earth-10943, and Earth-10071). In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Earth-199999), the live-action incarnation of Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, is the adoptive father of Love, an original character who is the biological daughter of Gorr, the God Butcher.
Considering that Thor is deemed one of the most attractive superheroes and has had a good number of love interests throughout his history, the fact that he still has no children in the Prime Universe of Marvel Comics is pretty interesting, although the Pre-Ragnarok version of the character had two sons; Magni and Modi. However, the stories that put the readers and characters on journies across multiple realities depict how Thor became a father in some other universes. In the rest of this article, we’ll explain all of his daughters from different parts of the Multiverse.
How many daughters does Thor have?
As we all know, the character of Thor is based on the god of the same name from Norse mythology. In the Marvel Comics Canon, the character was created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby and first appeared in ‘Journey into Mystery’ #83 in August 1962, debuting in the Silver Age of Comic Books. Thor is best known for being the Asgardian God of Thunder and one of the founding members of the Avengers who uses his hammer, Mjolnir, to fly and summon thunders.
In the Prime Universe of Marvel Comics, officially known as Earth-616, Thor has no children, although ‘Thor’ #491 (October 1995) depicted Price’s Clone Men, hybrid clone “children” of Thor and Amora, also known as Enchantress, who were created to work on the Worldengine. Also, the pre-Ragnarok version of the character had two sons, called Magni and Modi. However, this version of Thor made only one appearance in history in ‘Thor’ #293 in December 1979.
Although Thor didn’t have any children in the Prime Universe of Marvel Comics, the alternate versions of the character did, although none of them had more than one. If we look only at the comics, Thor had a daughter in five different alternate universes, out of which three of them were called Torunn Thorsdóttir, while the other two alternate versions were called Thena and Brigid, respectively.
Torunn Thorsdóttir (Earth-10071, Earth-10943, Earth-TRN591)
On Earth-10071, Torunn Thorsdóttir is a member of the Next Avengers, a team that is consisted of sons and daughters of the original Avengers whose world was taken by Ultron. She first appeared in ‘Avengers’ Volume 4 #2 in June 2010 and has made only three appearances in the comics since then.
The Earth-10943 version of Torunn is almost identical to her Earth-10071 counterpart. She’s also a member of the Next Avengers, and she first appeared in ‘Avengers’ Volume 4 #1, one issue before her Earth-10071 counterpart, although she chronologically first appeared in the sixth issue of the same series. She’s known to be the daughter of Thor and Sif, the Goddess of War.
Finally, the third comic book version of Torunn Thorsdóttir, set on Earth-TRN591, first appeared in ‘Generations: Iron Man & Ironheart’ #1 in September 2017. That was her first and only appearance.
Thena Thorsdóttir (Earth-982)
Thena is a daughter of Thor from Earth-982, although it’s unknown who her mother is. Unlike Torunn, she has a bit more stories to tell since she made seven appearances since she was introduced in ‘Avengers Next’ #2 in November 2006, Seven appearances might not be a lot, but it’s still better than making one or two appearances, and it allows us to understand her character better.
Thena escaped Asgard after Galactus destroyed it and lost track of her cousin and childhood friend Sylene Lokisdóttir, who seemed to Avenge her exiled father, Loki. She eventually joined the Avengers on Earth, which put her against Sylene, who attempted to recreate Asgard and replace Earth with it.
Brigid Thorsdottir (Earth-20368)
On Earth-20368, Brigid is a daughter of Thor and an unknown mother. Out of all daughters of Thor, she’s the newest character since she was first introduced in ‘Captain Marvel’ Volume 10 #23 in November 2020. She was depicted as a supporting character to Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, who recruited Brigid to her team.
Although she was unable to lift her father’s hammer, Mjolnir, in the beginning, Brigid eventually managed to do so while battling the forces of Ove and the Enchantress. That was her small character arc in only four main and two minor appearances she made in the comics. Her last minor appearance was in the 30th issue of the same Captain Marvel series in July 2021. If we can say, out of all Thor’s daughters, Brigid is definitely the most badass.
Who is the little girl in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’?
2022’s MCU movie ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ was a very loose adaptation of the 2013-14’s storyline ‘Thor: God of Thunder,’ in which Thor faced off against Gorr, the God Butcher, and Jane Foster was diagnosed with cancer, which eventually led her to become the Goddess of Thunder herself.
The movie ended with Christian Bale’s Gorr asking Eternity to revive his deceased daughter Love. As Gorr dies, he asks Thor to take care of her. Thor adopts Love, and she joins him in his adventures. Love is an original character who doesn’t exist in the comics since the comic book version of Gorr didn’t have a daughter but a son called Agar.
The movie’s final frame announced that Thor would eventually return to the MCU, although Chris Hemsworth has provided only vague answers about his potential return. If Thor’s going to return, it’s pretty likely that Love will return as well, especially because India Rose Hemsworth played her, Chris Hemsworth’s real-life daughter.
Does Thor have any sons?
We’ve already mentioned how the pre-Ragnarok version of Thor had two sons, Magni and Modi. Magni also exists on Earth-3515, where he’s a son of Thor and Amora/Enchantress, while Modi resided on Earth-1610 and was the son of Thor and Hela.
It’s important to say that this version of Hela wasn’t blood-related to Thor, so no, Modi wasn’t born as the result of incest. On Earth-1610, Thor eventually needed to kill his own son. Apart from Magni and Modi, one other son Thor had is Woden Thorson. The two different versions of him were located on Earth-691 and Earth-14412.
