‘Superman: Legacy’ is one of the most anticipated superhero movies. The film could mark a new renaissance period for DC Comics, which is having a really bad time at the box office right now. ‘Flash’ failed completely at the box office, being one of the worst box office bombs in Warner Bros.’ history. Meanwhile, ‘Aquaman 2’ has been plagued with major reshoots, and it seems like the movie is just a mess. ‘Blue Beetle,’ which will be released quickly, seems missing in action, as no one really cares about this obscure new superhero. DC, and Marvel, for that matter, need the big names to come forward, and ‘Superman: Legacy’ could be that push that DC needs to make it big once again.
A couple of weeks ago, film reporter and YouTuber, Grace Randolph, shared the news with her audience that the story of ‘Superman: Legacy’ could revolve around a conflict in the Middle East, specifically in the country of Bialya.
Bialya is a fictional country within the DC universe and stands in for real countries such as Egypt and Iran. According to Randolf, the story would see Superman getting involved in that conflict, and then the Justice League of America and the rest of the world would react to the appearance of Superman and how he would be able to affect the entire world from that point on.
The concept seems to be very similar to what ‘Batman V. Superman’ tried to do in its opening minutes, where Superman also got involved in an international conflict, and humanity started to wonder if it was the right choice for Superman to police the entire world. It is a very complex and interesting plot idea that could be developed into a very profound movie for Superman. ‘Batman V. Superman’ certainly went in that direction, but audiences deemed the film to be dark and boring. Now that James Gunn is writing and directing, he can add that fun factor that audiences crave so much and still manage to keep the story’s serious undertones real enough to have a meaningful impact on the audience.
James Gunn’s latest film, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,’ was indeed the last vestige of the golden era of the MCU. And it was a fun film that still went into very dark places for many of the characters involved. If James Gunn manages to do one more time for Superman, then we might be waiting for one of the best Superhero movies in years. Having the Justice League of America Involved will also give audiences a glimpse of the larger DC Universe that Gunn is trying to build. Still, it would be a Superman movie, as each of these superheroes would confront him in one way or another.
‘Superman: Legacy’ will star David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Edi Gatheni. We are still waiting for confirmation on who will play the famous Lex Luthor, but things are looking pretty interesting with this new film.
Are you excited about ‘Superman: Legacy’? What do you think about the story going in this direction?
