One of the things that we know about Ahsoka Tano, who is set to appear in the upcoming ‘Ahsoka’ series, is that she has one of the most incredible and unique stories in the world of Star Wars. That’s because she survived Order 66 while still being a Padawan in the technical sense and even ended up becoming one of the few Jedi to live through the reign of the Empire. Of course, she would always credit her success to her training. So, who trained Ahsoka Tano?
Anakin Skywalker trained Ahsoka Tano during the time that she was a Padawan learner. Ahsoka was assigned to be Anakin’s Padawan during the Clone Wars but was unable to complete her training because she left the Jedi Order before she could even become a Jedi Knight.
Ahsoka’s story is one that’s unique in the sense that she had the opportunity to learn from arguably the most important character in the mainline Star Wars movies. Of course, it was her bond with Anakin that eventually led to her development as a character in all of the appearances she made. So, with that said, let’s look into the story of how Anakin trained Ahsoka during their time as a duo.
Ahsoka went through basic Jedi Temple training
When it comes to character development in the world of Star Wars, Ahsoka Tano must be right at the top because of the fact that she grew on fans and became one of the most popular Star Wars characters after fans initially felt annoyed by her immaturity. And her journey started all the way from her years on Shili, which is the home planet of the Togruta race she is a part of.
Ahsoka was just an infant when her tribe on Shili discovered that she was sensitive to the Force. It didn’t take too long for the Jedi to notice her gifts as a Force wielder. Jedi Master Plo Koon eventually went to Shili to ask Ahsoka’s tribe whether or not they were willing to allow her to go to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant to become a Jedi. As such, Ahsoka was still just a very young girl when Plo Koon took her to the Jedi Temple, where she was trained at a very early age.
Just like any other child that had innate gifts in the Force, Ahsoka was given basic training by the instructors over at the Jedi Temple. Chief among all of the instructors was Jedi Grand Master Yoda, who served as the one overseeing the training of the younglings that were taken to the Jedi Temple to be trained in the ways of the Force. As such, Ahsoka learned all of the basics and fundamentals of wielding the Force and using a lightsaber when she spent her formative years learning from the instructors in the Jedi Temple.
Of course, we can’t say for sure who trained Ahsoka while she was still in the Jedi Temple, but we can say that Yoda was one of the Jedi Masters that trained her and a lot of other Younglings. In that regard, she went through the usual course that most younglings had to go through after the Jedi found her at a very young age.
Anakin mentored Ahsoka
After Ahsoka graduated from her days as a Jedi initiate and had mastered some of the basics that all younglings needed to learn, she became a Jedi Padawan and was allowed to forge her own lightsaber as part of the steps that Padawans needed to take before they were sent off to individual Jedi Knights and Masters to receive training on the field.
During the early days of the Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi were sent to take part in the Battle of Christophsis. This was detailed in the 2008 ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ movie, which served as the starting point of the ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ animated series. Ahsoka Tano arrived and was assigned to Anakin, who was surprised to learn that he was the one that the Jedi High Council tasked to serve as the mentor of this young Padawan.
Anakin had just been knighted but was already given the assignment by the Jedi Council to take a Padawan learner under his wing. At the tender age of 14, Ahsoka was a young yet very talented Padawan. But the reason why she was assigned to a 19-year-old Anakin was the fact that Yoda wanted Skywalker to learn what it meant to let go of attachments. And Yoda felt that taking a Padawan in as an apprentice would help him learn why the Jedi were not supposed to have attachments in life.
In that regard, Anakin and Ahsoka started a master-and-apprentice relationship that quickly turned into a sibling-like dynamic as they genuinely cared for one another like siblings do. This bond was so strong that Anakin often tried to find ways to save Ahsoka from difficult situations despite the fact that the Jedi were supposed to learn how to let go of people when the time was right. And Ahsoka also ended up caring so much for her master that she eventually blamed herself for his downfall to the dark side of the Force.
Ahsoka, of course, never got to finish her training with Anakin. That’s because Barriss Offee framed her for the bombing of the Jedi Temple, as this caused her expulsion from the Jedi Order. Ahsoka lost faith in the Jedi Council, which was ready to take her back in as a true Jedi Knight after Anakin proved her innocence. As such, she decided to leave the life of a Jedi before even becoming a Jedi Knight.
How did Anakin train Ahsoka?
Throughout the events of ‘The Clone Wars,’ we got to see how Ahsoka’s training was sped up compared to the other Padawan learners of the past. That’s because she was allowed to learn under Anakin during the time of the Clone Wars. And as a Jedi Padawan, she was immediately ranked commander.
So, while Padawan learners were supposed to learn on the field while going on missions with their masters, Ahsoka’s training took this to the next level because she became a Padawan during wartime. That is why most of her training happened on the field, as she fought in numerous battles against hordes of droids. She also had to go up against the likes of General Grievous and Asajj Ventress more than a few times, as this allowed her to improve her skills drastically.
However, in ‘Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi,’ we saw Anakin training Ahsoka outside the field of combat. Anakin had a bunch of the clones assigned to the 501st Legion surrounding Ahsoka and firing stun bolts indiscriminately at her so that she would learn how to deflect attacks from all angles. While Ahsoka failed this training a lot of different times, she eventually mastered it such that she could last minutes deflecting shots from the clones.
Eventually, Ahsoka’s training paid off. While on the Tribunal during the events of Order 66, Ahsoka was surrounded by clones and was getting blasted from all angles. However, thanks to her training, she survived getting blasted by multiple clones from different angles and was even able to escape the events of Order 66 unscathed.
