John Cena Is Officially Confirmed to Voice Peacemaker in ‘Mortal Kombat 1’

In modern Hollywood, it’s not uncommon for WWE stars to become movie stars, mainly because they have already built their reputation and recognition as celebrities through WWE. John Cena is certainly one of those stars. He started his career as an actor in 2006’s ‘The Marine,’ and he gained further recognition with ‘Trainwreck,’ ‘Bumblebee,’ and the two latest installments of the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise. However, he won’t be remembered for any of these roles as much as he’s going to be with the role of Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, in DC Extended Universe.

John Cena debuted as Peacemaker in 2021’s ‘The Suicide Squad,’ written and directed by the current co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn. Cena’s performance received positive feedback, and many fans agreed that Cena found a role that suited him the best, which Cena proved even more in 2022’s spin-off series ‘Peacemaker,’ which is set to eventually return for the second season after Gunn finishes his work on ‘Superman: Legacy.’

‘Mortal Kombat 1’ director confirms Cena’s return as Peacemaker!

While we’re waiting for Cena to return as Peacemaker in live-action, gamers will have a chance to use him as a playable character in the upcoming video game ‘Mortal Kombat 1,’ developed by NetherRealm Studios. Peacemaker is one of the few guest characters who will be added to the game through Season Pass.

While Peacemaker’s appearance in the game was confirmed a while ago, the game’s director Ed Boon recently confirmed for IGN that Cena would indeed reprise the role of Peacemaker in the game, and JK Simmons will also reprise the role of Omni-Man, another guest character, from the ‘Invincible’ animated series. These guest characters won’t be featured in the game’s story mode, so we aren’t expecting a lot of dialogue, but at least actors got to record grunts and the introduction sentences we hear before every fight in the game.

NetherRealm Studios’ Creative Director Teases Ideas for ‘Injustice 3’

Ed Boon is one of the original co-creators of the ‘Mortal Kombat’ franchise. After Midway Games, the franchise’s original developer, filed for bankruptcy, the franchise was taken over by NetherRealm Studios, who developed all the franchise’s games since 2011’s ‘Mortal Kombat 9.’ Boon remained attached to the franchise to this day, and he’s currently working as the creative director for NetherRealm Studios.

‘Mortal Kombat 1’ is set to be released on September 19, 2023, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The game won’t be released on last-gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox One. Peacemaker will be added to the game subsequently through DLC.

Are you looking forward to ‘Mortal Kombat 1’? Will you play as Peacemaker once he’s added to the game through DLC?
