30 Star Wars Characters Ranked by Midi-Chlorian Count

One of the things that we know about the Star Wars world is that every living being has Midi-chlorians. These microscopic organisms communicate with the Force, the cosmic being that governs the entire galaxy. However, it is also known that a certain level of Midi-chlorian count allows a person to become strong enough to wield the Force. As such, only those who can reach that level are trained by the Jedi Order.
That’s because the Midi-chlorian count determines a certain person’s potential to wield the Force. The higher the Midi-chlorian count, the higher the potential of the person. Still, we know that the person’s potential and strength in the Force isn’t what determines how good of a Jedi they will be. So, with that said, let’s look at the Star Wars characters with the highest Midi-chlorian counts.

30. Sabine Wren – Midi-chlorian count: Under 7,000
We learned in ‘Ahsoka’ that Ashoka Tano trained Sabine Wren as a Jedi because she believed in her abilities. But we also learned from the droid named Huyang, who has been around for 25,000 years and is a witness to the history of the Jedi, that Sabine has the lowest potential out of all of the Padawans he has ever met.
That’s because Sabine doesn’t meet the standards of the Jedi Order when it comes to Padawans. Nevertheless, Ahsoka still trained her because she believed that those weak in the Force could still be Jedi. Still, Sabine’s Midi-chlorian count likely falls under 7,000, which is said to be the minimum requirement to be a Jedi.
29. Qui-Gon Jinn – Midi-chlorian count: 10,000
We know that Qui-Gon Jinn was a strong and respected Jedi Master. He was known for his wisdom and renegade beliefs. Qui-Gon was also one of the first people to know how to use his connection with the Living Force to return as a Force Ghost. And that was why he was such a great Jedi during his time.
Despite his wisdom and power, Qui-Gon wasn’t known to be the most powerful Jedi Master. He wasn’t particularly powerful. Qui-Gon lost to Darth Maul in a straight-up duel. While Maul was a powerful Sith Lord, the problem was that Jinn wasn’t exactly the most powerful Jedi, so he lost to the Sith.
28. Shin Hati – Midi-chlorian count: Around 10,000
At this point, we don’t know a lot about Shin Hati and where she came from. But we know she is strong enough to be trained in the ways of the Force by a capable former Jedi in the form of Baylan Skoll. And that’s why we know that she is actually quite strong.
Shin Hati is likely around the 10,000 mark in terms of her Midi-chlorian count, but there’s a good chance she could be stronger. We don’t know her true potential, but we do know that she is still improving, especially when we know that she couldn’t defeat Sabin Wren fast enough in their first duel.
27. Adi Gallia – Midi-chlorian count: Around 10,000
Adi Gallia was a strong Jedi Master during the time of the Jedi Order, and she was also one of the most respected Jedi of that time. She was stronger than the regular Jedi Knight, but we also know that her powers were not entirely superior to the other Jedi.
There’s a good chance that Adi’s Midi-chlorian count is slightly above 10,000, and we know that she’s strong, wise, and capable enough to be a respected Jedi Master. Nevertheless, she wasn’t strong enough to win a duel against the raw Savage Opress, whose power wasn’t impressive.
26. Luminara Unduli – Midi-chlorian count: Around 11,000
Luminara Unduli was one of the wisest Jedi Masters during the time of the Clone Wars. She was strong, wise, powerful, and incredibly insightful. Luminara also served as the master of Barriss Offee, who was also strong in her own right.
Of course, while she may have been a Jedi Master, she wasn’t exactly at the top of the ladder in terms of the strongest Jedi Masters. She was a respected member of the Jedi Council. But even her wisdom and strength couldn’t allow her to take on the next person on this list.
25. Asajj Ventress – Midi-chlorian count: Nearly 12,000
Asajj Ventress served as the apprentice of Count Dooku during the Clone Wars. She may have been his apprentice, but she was more of an assassin that he could use at any given time to try to take down the Jedi. And Ventress was strong enough to give some of the strongest Jedi some trouble.
On top of the fact that she could fight Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi on par a few times, she was also strong enough to take on Luminara Unduli and get the upper hand. She was also powerful in the dark side and was able to take advantage of her power to try to take on Count Dooku, who ended up taking her life.
24. Kanan Jarrus – Midi-chlorian count: Around 12,000
Kanan Jarrus was a Jedi survivor named Caleb Dume. After surviving Order 66, he changed his name to keep himself hidden from the Empire as a Rebel leading a small cell called the Spectres. It was during the time that he was leading the Spectres that he became Ezra Bridger’s mentor.
While Kanan wasn’t knighted officially, he became a Jedi Knight after the spirit of the Grand Inquisitor knighted him. Kanan was powerful and skilled enough to defeat the strongest Inquisitor on his own. And he was also capable enough to duel Darth Maul one-on-one.
23. Ki-Adi-Mundi – Midi-chlorian count: Around 12,500
Ki-Adi-Mundi was one of the most intelligent Jedi Masters during the time of the Clone Wars. He was also a leading member of the Jedi Council, as his wisdom was often sought during many different times. And he was also exceptionally powerful.
Despite his old age, Master Mundi was one of the best at deflecting blaster bolts, deflecting multiple clone trooper shots even though they caught him off-guard. On top of that, Mundi was also powerful in the Force and was one of the most experienced Jedi Masters of his era.
22. Kit Fisto – Midi-chlorian count: 12,700
Known as the “Smiling Jed,” Kit Fisto was one of the most interesting Jedi Masters of his time because his magnetic smile made him a favorite among fans. He was also one of the strongest members of the Jedi Council during the Clone Wars, as we saw his talents on display quite often in the different skirmishes against the Separatists.
Fisto was also incredibly skilled in the Force and was one of the few Jedi Masters who relied almost always on the most basic lightsaber form, Form I: Shii Cho. While he died in the fight with Palpatine, he survived longer than the other two Jedi Masters did. And that says a lot because Palpatine was always one of the most powerful Force users of all time.
21. Shaak Ti – Midi-chlorian count: 12,800
Another leading member of the Jedi Council during the Clone Wars, Shaak Ti, was a wise and powerful Jedi Master who was respected well enough for her eye for talent that she was asked to oversee the training of the clone troopers on Kamino.
Battle-wise, Shaak-Ti was also very capable of handling her own against some of the strongest opponents in Star Wars. However, she died without having the opportunity to defend herself as Anakin stabbed her from behind while she was trying to send a message out to all of the other Jedi in the galaxy.
20. Plo Koon – Midi-chlorian count: 12,900
Other than Yoda, Mace Windu, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Plo Koon was arguably the most influential out of all of the Jedi Masters. He was a wise and powerful Jedi Master whose strength in the Force equaled his wisdom. Plo was also the one who found Ahsoka Tano and took her to the Jedi Temple.
In all of the different appearances that he made, Plo Koon was shown to be quite powerful. His natural skills as a pilot and strength in the Force made him the only other Jedi to actually match Anakin Skywalker’s piloting skills. In that regard, he was an all-arounder in the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars.
19. Cal Kestis – Midi-chlorian count: Around 13,000
Even though Cal Kestis was just a Padawan when Order 66 happened, he quickly remembered his Jedi training during the events of ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order,’ where he was knighted on the field. In ‘Fallen Order,’ he was strong enough to defeat a fallen Jedi Master, albeit with some help. He also possesses a special skill that allows him to see the memories of certain objects using the Force.
Then, in ‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor,’ Cal became powerful enough to take on a Jedi Master from the High Republic era. In that regard, there is no doubt that he has become one of the strongest Jedi survivors at that time. And that means that his Midi-chlorian count is likely somewhere around 13,000.
18. Baylan Skoll – Midi-chlorian count: Around 13,500
Baylan Skoll is one of the newest Force wielders on this list. He is one of the antagonists of the ‘Ahsoka’ series and is a survivor of Order 66. In that regard, he was trained by the Jedi Order and is supposed to be quite skilled.
Arguably, Baylan is right around Ahsoka’s level. We don’t know for sure, but all we know is that he is supposed to be strong and skilled enough to have survived the Great Jedi Purge. As such, he might even be stronger than Ahsoka.
17. Darth Maul – Midi-chlorian count: Around 14,000
Darth Maul was the first apprentice of Palpatine when the Sith were still in hiding and just after Darth Sidious killed his master. Maul was described as a being of pure rage, using his anger and hatred to fuel his powers. And Palpatine was proud enough to say that the Jedi were not strong enough to defeat Maul.
In that regard, Maul proved his prowess by defeating Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn decisively. However, after killing Qui-Gon, Maul was defeated by Obi-Wan Kenobi, who cut him in half. Maul was finally killed on Tatooine by his eternal rival, Obi-Wan, who managed to make quick work of him in their final encounter.
16. Ezra Bridger – Midi-chlorian count: Around 14,000
Ezra Bridger was born on the day that the Empire was born from the Republic’s ashes, which means that the Force might have had something to do with this fact. Although he only trained in the Force during his teenage years, he showed great aptitude as a student under Kanan Jarrus. He progressed quickly through his training and became very skilled in the use of the Force.
While Ezra’s lightsaber skills were not entirely on par with strong Jedi, he was one of the best at using the Force, as he could actually communicate with animals almost effortlessly. He was also very strong in the use of Force telekinesis, being able to match or even surpass Kanan Jarrus in this field.
15. Grogu – Midi-chlorian count: Around 14,000
Grogu is one of the two protagonists of ‘The Mandalorian’ and is actually a 50-year-old child who survived the events of Order 66 and was eventually captured by Moff Gideon, who used him for his experiments regarding the Force and how to isolate the genes that allow someone to be strong in the Force.
In that regard, Grogu is powerful in the Force and is so strong that he likely possesses the same potential as Yoda. Of course, we don’t know the full extent of what Grogu is capable of because his species tends to age rather slowly. But he may end up becoming a powerful Force user in the future.
14. Ahsoka Tano – Midi-chlorian count: Around 14,000
As the Padawan of Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano was well-trained and was one of the best young Jedi that the Jedi Order had during the Clone Wars because she was a hardened warrior who had to fight a lot of battles at that time. She was also born strong in the Force, as she was already strong enough to communicate with animals when she was still just a baby.
Ahsoka has also shown considerable improvement as a Force wielder, being strong enough to pull an entire shuttle with the Force. She is also one of the few Jedi to actually fight Darth Vader on par during the era of the Empire.
13. Cere Junda – Midi-chlorian count: Around 15,000
Serving as one of the most important characters of ‘Star Wars Jedi,’ Cere Junda was a Jedi Master during the time of the Clone Wars and was one of the Jedi survivors of Order 66. But the torture she underwent after the Empire captured her cut her off from the Force as she lost her faith in it.
Nevertheless, after regaining her connection to the Force, Cere showcased her strength and power in her duel against Darth Vader. She fought the Sith Lord on par and nearly killed him. Only a last-second strike from Vader saved the Sith Lord in that duel. However, he left badly injured and barely able to walk, proving that Cere was one of his toughest fights ever.
12. Darth Plagueis – Midi-chlorian count: 15,500
Darth Plagueis was the master of Darth Sidious (Palpatine) before the powerful Sith Lord betrayed him. But while Plagueis may have been killed by his apprentice, this was all part of the Rule of Two, which necessitated the apprentice becoming powerful enough to kill the master.
In that regard, Palpatine needed to work hard enough to eventually murder his own master, and that means that Plagueis was not an easy customer to deal with. He was said to be a scholar of the Force, having spent his entire life researching about immortality. Plagueis was also the one who taught Palpatine everything he knew, thus proving that he was a powerful Sith Lord.
11. Darth Vader – Midi-chlorian count: 16,000
Of course, Darth Vader is on the high part of this list because there is no doubting the fact that he is one of the most powerful individuals in the entire galaxy. He was the dreaded Sith Lord who struck fear into the hearts of the Rebels during the Imperial era. And that’s because he was incredibly powerful in the dark side.
But while Vader was strong, he was a shell of his former self because his potential was now lower due to how he lost a lot of Midi-chlorians after his body became more machine than man. It is often estimated that his Midi-chlorian count was reduced by almost half, hence the reason why he isn’t higher up on this list despite how powerful he was.
10. Count Dooku – Midi-chlorian count: 16,500
Count Dooku was once the mentor of Qui-Gon Jinn. He was a powerful Jedi Master who served as Yoda’s Padawan at one point in time. And because he was Yoda’s apprentice, he had the talent and the potential to become one of the strongest Jedi of his time.
Often regarded as the finest duelist in the Jedi Order, Dooku was a master of Form II: Makashi, which allowed him to stand out in terms of his grace and precision. He was also powerful enough in the ways of the Force, as he could fight Yoda on par in that regard. After he fell to the dark side, Dooku became so powerful that only a few Jedi were equipped to deal with his power at that time.
9. Obi-Wan Kenobi – Midi-chlorian count: 17,000
Well, it might be true that Obi-Wan Kenobi never looked like the strongest Jedi, but he did have a pretty high potential. He was a powerful Jedi Master who embodied everything good about the Jedi Order. Ultimately, his kindness, discipline, and refusal to give in to darkness made him a favorite among different fans.
Obi-Wan is the only character who could ever claim to have beaten Darth Vader twice. Of course, his defensive style and knowledge of Anakin’s tendencies gave him the advantage. But his second victory over Vader showcased what he can do with the Force whenever he is in perfect harmony with it. And that’s why he belongs in the top ten of this list.
8. Ben Solo/Kylo Ren – Midi-chlorian count: Around 17,500
As the son of Leia Organa and Han Solo, Ben Solo was born with the potential of a Skywalker. He may not have had the same potential as his mother, uncle, and grandfather. But being the grandson of the Chosen One has its perks as far as his potential is concerned.
In that regard, Ben rose up to become Luke’s star student in a matter of a few years. He was the strongest Jedi in Luke’s Jedi Order other than Luke himself. However, he fell to the dark side due to personal and family issues that clouded his mind. As Kylo Ren, he was a ruthless enforcer who used the dark side to become even stronger.
7. Mace Windu – Midi-chlorian count: 18,000
Often known as the champion of the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars, there was no finer fighter than Mace Windu. He mastered Form VII and created his own combat form variant called Vaapad, which was the most aggressive and combat-oriented out of all of the lightsaber forms but was free of the corruption of the dark side.
In that regard, Windu became so strong as a fighter that the only Jedi who could match his prowess was Yoda. But Windu was arguably the better combatant, as seen from the fact that he defeated Sheev Palpatine fair and square in a duel.
6. Rey Skywalker/Palpatine – Midi-chlorian count: 18,000
At first, Rey’s history was unknown because the only thing she was aware of was the fact that she was left on Jakku by her parents. She honed her basic combat skills on Jakku by surviving as a scavenger. But it became apparent that she had natural gifts in the Force. It was eventually revealed that Rey was Palpatine’s granddaughter.
As the daughter of one of Sheev Palpatine’s clones, Rey was born with the innate power of a Palpatine, and that means that her potential was just about on par with her grandfather. That was why the emperor wanted to use her body as his new vessel, only for him to fail and see his flesh and blood destroying him.
5. Yoda – Midi-chlorian count: 19,000
Often considered the wisest Jedi of all time, Yoda is a true GOAT contender when it comes to the Jedi Order because he was the combination of wisdom, power, experience, and potential. Of course, his connection with the Force was uncanny and unusual because it was so powerful.
Because of his powerful connection with the Force, Yoda was far stronger than any ordinary Jedi despite his small stature and advanced age. He was so powerful that he forced Dooku to run away from their duel. And he was one of the only Jedi to ever live through an encounter with Palpatine himself.
4. Palpatine/Darth Sidious – Midi-chlorian count: 20,000
Emperor Sheev Palpatine, who is also known as Darth Sidious, is often called the most powerful Sith of all time because he was the culmination of a thousand years of preparation. He was the perfect Sith Lord in terms of how intelligent, cunning, and manipulative he was. And that was why Sidious is often considered stronger than any other Sith in history.
Palpatine’s power in the dark side was so great that not even the strongest Jedi in the galaxy could sense that he had malice in his heart. On top of that, he was strong enough to take on four Jedi Masters at the same time, killing three of them in a matter of seconds. While he lost his duel with Mace Windu, he stalemated Yoda and made the Jedi Grandmaster admit that he was defeated.
3. Leia Organa – Midi-chlorian count: 23,000
Truth be told, Leia Organa never became a powerful Jedi. She had training in the ways of the Force, and Luke Skywalker even considered her to be more naturally skilled than he was in terms of her lightsaber skills. However, Leia probably never even reached half of her potential because she never completed her training.
Nevertheless, as a Skywalker, Leia had Anakin Skywalker’s blood. The fact that she was Luke’s twin means she had the same potential in the Force as he did. She would have been just as powerful as Luke had she completed her training.
2. Luke Skywalker –Midi-chlorian count: 23,000
Luke Skywalker is often called the greatest Jedi of all time, alongside the likes of Yoda. He was born with a potential that is exceeded only by his father, who we know is the Chosen One. As such, as the son of the Chosen One, Luke had all of the innate power to become stronger than any other Jedi in history.
The fact that Luke progressed through his training so fast that he was able to defeat Darth Vader four years after he first held a lightsaber is proof of how high his potential was. He only became stronger, wiser, and more experienced as he got older. As such, at the end of his days, he was the greatest Jedi of all time and was far stronger than Kylo Ren, who couldn’t even match Luke’s prowess in their final duel.
1. Anakin Skywalker (Before Injury) – Midi-chlorian count: Over 27,000
Of course, the man with the highest Midi-chlorian count in history is Anakin Skywalker, who was quickly dubbed the Chosen One by Qui-Gon Jinn after his Midi-chlorian count was tested. Jinn believed that Anakin was the one who was supposed to bring balance to the Force, and that was why he was brought to the Jedi Temple to be trained. Qui-Gon died before he could train Anakin, and the task fell on Obi-Wan’s shoulders.
Anakin was a mighty Jedi whose lightsaber combat skills were so great that he could overpower a great duelist like Count Dooku. He grew ever more powerful in the Force, especially after falling to the dark side. However, he never truly reached his full potential because he lost all his limbs and burned to a crisp.
It is often said that Anakin’s Midi-chlorian count was cut to half after the incident on Mustafar, which is why he was never able to achieve the distinction of the strongest Force wielder of all time.
