The events of ‘Ahsoka’ have been nothing but surprising and mind-blowing due to how there have been a lot of different twists and turns. But while we do know that ‘Ahsoka’ takes place during the New Republic era, one thing that fans aren’t sure of is when it takes place with respect to the events of the main series of the New Republic era, ‘The Mandalorian.’ So, does ‘Ahsoka’ take place before or after ‘The Mandalorian’?

‘Ahsoka’ likely takes place after the events of season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian.’ The clue here is Carson Teva, who was busy investigating the actions of the Imperial remnants in ‘The Mandalorian’ season 3 but appeared in ‘Ahsoka’ to help Hera Syndulla because he had every reason to believe that the Empire was still active.

Of course, some fans thought that ‘Ahsoka’ takes place at the same time as ‘The Mandalorian.’ There are even some fans who think that its timeline is right after the fall of the Empire. But it is clear that it takes place after ‘The Mandalorian’ due to Teva’s appearance in the series. Now, let’s look at where ‘Ahsoka’ falls within the timeline of the era of the New Republic.

They are on the same timeline

First things first, the one thing that we should clear up here is that ‘Ahsoka’ doesn’t take place RIGHT after the events of ‘Star Wars: Rebels.’ Some fans think that ‘Ahsoka’ takes place after the epilogue of ‘Rebels’ due to the fact that episode 2 of ‘Ahsoka’ is similar to the epilogue scene in ‘Rebels’ wherein Ahsoka and Sabine left Lothal together to go looking for Ezra Bridger.

But while it may be easy to get a bit confused due to the fact that the scenes are very similar to one another, it is possible that the ‘Rebels’ epilogue was meant to be the one that’s similar to the scene in ‘Ahsoka’ wherein Ahsoka and Sabine left Lothal together to go on a mission to search for Ezra.

Of course, we know that Ahsoka and Sabine had previously traveled together because they now have a rapport that wasn’t the same as the one that we saw in ‘Rebels.’ Still, the fact is that years have already passed since the fall of the Empire. And we know that ‘Ahsoka’ takes place somewhere during or after 9 ABY and falls well into the timeline of ‘The Mandalorian.’

The clue here is Morgan Elsbeth, who was introduced in ‘The Mandalorian’ season 2 as the governor of a city on Corvus. In ‘The Mandalorian,’ Ahsoka Tano and Din Djarin worked together to apprehend Elsbeth. After defeating Elsbeth, Ahsoka asked her for the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn, as it was clear that she was on a mission to try to prevent the return of the Chiss tactician.

Then, in the opening crawl of ‘Ahsoka,’ it was mentioned that the New Republic had captured Morgan Elsbeth after Ahsoka interrogated her. In that regard, it is clear that ‘Ahsoka’ takes place during the events of ‘The Mandalorian.’ And there’s a good reason to believe that the series takes place after the events of season 2 of ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ because we know that Ahsoka also made a cameo in ‘The Book of Boba Fett.’

‘Ahsoka’ likely takes place after ‘The Mandalorian’ season 3

The biggest question that fans have in relation to where the events of ‘Ahsoka’ take place during the era of the New Republic is whether it takes place before, during, or after season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian.’ There’s no doubt that ‘Ahsoka’ takes place after season 2 of ‘The Mandalorian’ and the events of ‘The Book of Boba Fett.’ But what about season 3?

Well, in season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian,’ Din Djarin and Grogu continued their adventures. There were clues in that series that point to the possibility that it takes place just before ‘Ahsoka.’ Early in the season, Grogu encountered the silhouette of Purrgil in hyperspace while he and Din Djarin were traveling from one system to another. Din, however, was asleep at that time and wasn’t able to see the Purrgil. This pod of Purrgil might be the same one that we saw on Seatos in episode 3 of ‘Ahsoka.’

Then, during the latter portions of ‘The Mandalorian’ season 3, we learned that the Shadow Council exists. This group is a council composed of some of the most prominent Imperial remnants. The group exists in secret to fool the New Republic into thinking that there is no collaboration between the Imperial remnants. But the truth was that they were operating in secret on their own missions in preparation for the next phase of the Empire’s return.

The Shadow Council, however, was waiting for the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was supposed to be the only one capable of leading the Imperial remnants. Because Thrawn wasn’t around in season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian,’ it goes without saying that Morgan Elsbeth has yet to find him. And because Elsbeth wasn’t in that meeting, it means that she was yet to get busted out of prison by Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati.

But probably the best clue that points to the fact that ‘Ahsoka’ likely takes place after season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’ is Captain Carson Teva of the New Republic Defense Fleet. Teva has had a few encounters with Din Djarin as they eventually developed a good working relationship with one another. In season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian,’ Teva was actively working independently to try to learn more about the small movements that the Imperial remnants were making because he still had no definite proof that the Empire was still a threat and that they were all working together.

At the conclusion of season 3, Din Djarin went to meet up with Teva to offer his services as an independent contractor to the New Republic Defense Fleet. Teva thanked him for taking care of the Moff Gideon mess on Mandalore, and that meant that Teva was already aware that the Imperials were on the move.

Then, in episode 4 of ‘Ahsoka,’ Teva was one of the few starfighter pilots who accompanied Hera Syndulla on an unsanctioned mission to send aid to Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren on Seatos. This couldn’t have happened concurrently or before season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’ because Teva was too busy with his investigations. And because Teva volunteered to help Hera, it means that he already knows that the Imperial remnants are still threats to the New Republic.

This all leads to the conclusion that ‘Ahsoka’ takes place just after the events of ‘The Mandalorian’ season 3. This makes sense because the Mando-verse movie that’s going to be released in the near future will be a collaboration between some of the most prominent heroes of the New Republic era, including Ahsoka Tano and Din Djarin.
