The Multiverse Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced many new characters into the franchise’s canon, and it’s expected the majority of them will have a role in the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies. Of course, with all these new heroes, you also need a new villain, played by Jonathan Majors, at least for now. Apart from playing Kang the Conqueror, Majors also played many character variants. Although legal problems are putting a question mark on Majors’ future in the MCU, in this article, we’ll tell you if we’re still going to see Majors in ‘Loki’ Season 2 and beyond.

Jonathan Majors will definitely show up in ‘Loki’ Season 2, as the post-credit scene of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ announced earlier this year. However, the catch is that Majors filmed his scenes for ‘Loki’ before his legal problems. He is currently set to stand trial for abuse allegations later this year, and if he’s found guilty, he surely won’t play Kang the Conqueror and his other variants anymore, although his character is confirmed to appear in the upcoming ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ which is set to be released in 2026.

Jonathan Majors was initially cast to play Kang the Conqueror in 2023’s ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ although he debuted two years earlier in the first season of Loki as Nathaniel Richards, aka He Who Remains. After finishing his work on ‘Loki’ Season 2 and his arrest in March 2023, Marvel Studios didn’t issue any statements about potential recast, so it looks like they’re waiting for the legal epilogue of Majors’ case.

Will Jonathan Majors continue playing his MCU role(s) beyond ‘Loki’ Season 2?

Back in September 2020, when Jonathan Majors was first announced to play Kang the Conqueror in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ we didn’t have a clue that he was supposed to be the franchise’s next Thanos, so to speak. Majors made his first appearance in the MCU in the Season 1 finale of ‘Loki,’ where he played Nathaniel Richards, aka He Who Remains, whose death opened the doors of the Multiverse and set up Kang’s debut in ‘Quantumania.’

Still, we didn’t know that ‘Quantumania’ would start setting up the stage for the next crossover event until Kevin Feige revealed at 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con that the next ‘Avengers’ movie would be titled ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ confirming that Kang will have a much larger role in the franchise and won’t be a one-time villain.

Even though Ant-Man defeated Kang and ultimately died, the mid-credit scene of the movie showed that numerous Kang variants, led by Immortus (all portrayed by Majors), are preparing for something big, so even if we don’t see Quantumania’s Kang anymore, Kang as such will still have a large role in the franchise, because just like in the comics, there are many different variants of Kang the Conqueror.

The post-credit scene of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ depicted Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius encountering Victor Timely, another Kang variant, in 1901, which leads directly into the events of ‘Loki’ Season 2. As we’ve seen in the trailer, Majors will return again, playing Victor and perhaps even more Kang variants in the series. ‘Loki’ certainly has a big role in setting up the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies.

However, while we know that Kang and his variants will continue appearing in Multiverse Saga, will Majors continue to play the character? That is currently a million-dollar question.

In March 2023, one month after the release of ‘Quantumania,’ Majors was arrested by the police for assault, and he’s set to stand trial by the end of this year. From the looks of things, Marvel Studios is waiting for the case to be resolved to decide what to do with Majors. If Majors is found guilty, he’s definitely out, and we won’t see him as Kang or any of the variants after ‘Loki’ Season 2.

Majors’ case is still ongoing. The trial was pushed back twice already, so it’s unknown when this whole thing will reach the epilogue. Due to the ongoing strikes in Hollywood, all of Marvel Studios’ projects that haven’t been completed are currently on hold. It’s unknown if Majors was set to appear in more MCU projects between ‘Loki’ Season 2 and ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ but the production of ‘The Kang Dynasty’ won’t begin anytime soon, even if the movie stays on its current release date, May 2026.

Here’s Why Kang the Conqueror Is Considered Evil

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Nathaniel Richards, also known as Kang the Conqueror, debuted in Marvel Comics in 1964. He was depicted as a time-traveling supervillain from the 31st century who traveled around space and time to conquer them. His alternate variants include Pharaoh Rama-Tut, Immortus, the Scarlet Centurion, Victor Timely, Iron Lad, and Mister Gryphon. Judging by the mid-credit scene of ‘Quantumania,’ we expect to see more of his alternate variants in the future, although we don’t know whether Majors will play them.

‘Loki’ Season 2 will premiere on October 6, 2023, exclusively on Disney+. The series’ first season and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania’ are now streaming on Disney+.
