There are a lot of different video games, comic books, and movie characters who were all inspired by the gods that we can read about in different mythologies. Of course, ‘God of War’ has Kratos as its poster child, and Thor represents the Norse gods in the world of the MCU. Both of these gods are powerhouses of their own pantheons and are so incredibly strong that it’s difficult to find someone who could match them. But who is stronger between Kratos and Thor, and who would win a fight?
Strength
Kratos is undoubtedly the strongest god in the world of ‘God of War’ as he has proven himself capable of overpowering the likes of Hercules, who was the strongest god in the Greek pantheon, and could even stop a literal titan like Cronos from crushing him. He could also go toe-to-toe with the Thor of his universe and came out on top against the mightiest of all of the Asgardian gods. We are yet to see a god stronger than Kratos in ‘God of War.’
Known as the mightiest out of all of the gods of Asgard in the MCU, Thor’s strength surpasses any other god, including his own father. He is several times stronger than the regular Asgardian god and can overpower literal giants in the MCU. Thor was also one of the few characters who could go toe-to-toe with the Hulk and Thanos in terms of pure brute strength. He can easily lift some of the heaviest objects in the MCU and overpower some of the strongest characters.
While it might be true that Thor is the mightiest out of all of the Asgardians in the MCU, we know that Kratos has defeated creatures and enemies far stronger and larger than the ones that Thor has faced. That’s why he gets the slight edge in terms of raw strength.

Durability
Kratos is nigh-invulnerable in the world of ‘God of War’ as he can take on attacks that are supposedly fatal to any mortal or even any god but can survive them with minimal damage. He can take on attacks from the likes of Thor, Zeus, and Odin without any permanent injuries. The scariest part about Kratos is that he is said to be immortal because he is cursed to never die because of the sins of his past, and that means that he will always find a way to return to the world of the living even after “dying.”
Thor is right up there with some of the most durable MCU characters because he can take attacks that would have killed or injured other superheroes but is left unscathed. He is one of the few characters who can take attacks from the Hulk and Thanos without suffering any permanent or serious injuries. But the most impressive was that he could take the power of a dying star. Only god-killing or god-slaying weapons or cosmic-level attacks can kill him.
At this point, it is tough to say whether or not Thor is more durable than Kratos because they can survive some of the strongest attacks in their respective universes. But we’re giving Kratos the advantage because he is basically immortal.

Powers and Abilities
While he used to have true godlike powers when he was the full-time god of war of the Greek pantheon, Kratos has become a pure powerhouse with no innate powers outside his healing factor. However, he can use the powers of the weapons he can wield, including his Blades of Chaos and Leviathan Axe. He can also use the elemental powers associated with the weapons he can wield, which means that Kratos is basically magical as long as he has the right weapon in his hands.
Even though many people thought that Thor could command thunder because of Mjolnir, he was always the god of thunder in the sense that his command over thunder was innate. Thor’s weapons were only meant to amplify his command over thunder, but he was always capable of commanding thunder and lightning using his innate abilities. In that regard, Thor can use his weapons to deliver powerful blasts of thunder that can damage or even kill other godlike beings.
Thor’s innate powers give him the edge here because he has command over thunder and lightning. On the other hand, Kratos can only access the elemental powers of the weapons that he wields.

Fighting Skills
Even before he found out that he was a god, Kratos was already a well-trained fighter because he went through the most grueling training that any soldier can undergo. He was a Spartan general and the strongest and most skilled out of all of the different Spartans, which was why his fighting skills were unmatched. Kratos can brawl and wrestle with the best of them, even without any weapons. However, he is skilled in using any weapon due to his Spartan training.
Like any Asgardian, Thor underwent training and became one of the most skilled out of all of the Asgardian warriors. He is a superb unarmed combatant, as he can go toe-to-toe with some of the best brawlers in the MCU. On top of that, he is seemingly an expert in using any weapon due to his advanced training and experience as a warrior. Let’s not forget that Thor has been around for centuries and has had hundreds of years to hone his fighting skills.
Kratos and Thor are almost evenly matched regarding their fighting abilities. However, we are giving Kratos a slight edge here because he was already a strong fighter before he became a true god. His brutal fighting style also gives him an edge.

Feats
The list of all of Kratos’ feats is almost unparalleled because he is literally a slayer of gods in the sense that he destroyed the entire Greek pantheon and killed the strongest gods and titans that Greece could offer. He survived through the destruction of the Greek pantheon and went on to go to the land of the Norse gods to defeat the likes of Odin, Thor, and Baldur. That means there’s no questioning that he is just as strong or even stronger than any other god in his own universe.
Thor, of course, has had a lot of impressive feats as well, and he was said to be strong enough to take on all of Jotunheim on his own. He continued to display his feats by defeating the Asgardian destroyer, going toe-to-toe with the Hulk, and going up against and beating Thanos. Thor also defeated Gorr the God Butcher, empowered by the Necrosword, which was meant to kill gods. In that regard, he has defeated his fair share of powerful godlike beings.
Even though Thor’s accomplishments are nothing to scoff at, destroying an entire pantheon and defeating the most powerful gods of the Greek and the Norse pantheons is actually a lot more impressive.

Who wins, Kratos or Thor?
At the end of the day, Kratos just has too many advantages over Thor for the MCU god of thunder to have a chance against the Ghost of Sparta. While Thor can find a way to match Kratos’ physical abilities and fighting skills, Kratos’ immortality gives him the edge here. Of course, let’s not forget about the fact that Kratos’ feats are more impressive as he has destroyed entire pantheons all on his own.
