If there’s one Jedi we know embodies what it means to be a Jedi, it’s Obi-Wan Kenobi because he understands what it means to sacrifice the things important to him to achieve a greater good. Of course, we know that he ended up training Luke Skywalker during the events of ‘A New Hope,’ only for him to lose his life when he decided it was time for him to be one with the Force. But we also know that he had a pretty sad life that stemmed from the fact that he had to give up many things to achieve the greater good, and his romantic love was one of the things that he ultimately had to forego. So, does that mean that Obi-Wan Kenobi had a wife?

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi never had a wife his entire life because he devoted everything that he had to the Jedi Order up until his death.
  • But Obi-Wan once fell in love with Duchess Satine Kryze of Mandalore, although their love for one another never materialized beyond mutual admiration.

Obi-Wan stayed single his entire life

While most Star Wars fans remember the Skywalkers when it comes to the entire Skywalker Saga, there were a lot of unsung heroes whose roles were so crucial that the entire saga wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for the parts they played. Obi-Wan Kenobi is often the character people think about regarding unsung heroes because he had one of the most important roles to play in the Skywalker Saga.

We know Obi-Wan Kenobi as the man who trained Anakin Skywalker since the latter was just nine years old. Through Obi-Wan’s teachings, Anakin became a great Jedi Knight before he fell to the dark side and became Darth Vader. Obi-Wan was wholeheartedly dedicated to the Jedi Order despite failing to pull his former Padawan away from the dark side.

Ever since he became a Jedi Knight at the end of ‘Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace,’ Obi-Wan dedicated his entire life to the Jedi Order as he was even willing to forego his own beliefs to train Anakin because that was what his master taught him to do before his death. Obi-Wan was a stickler for rules when he was training Anakin because he understood that he needed to be a responsible older brother and master to the younger Jedi so that there would be a voice of reason in their tandem.

Throughout the entire time that he served the Jedi Order, especially during the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan was entirely loyal to the Jedi Code and would never turn to the dark side no matter what, even if it meant the death of his loved ones. And even after the Jedi Order was destroyed after Anakin fell to the dark side, Obi-Wan didn’t even succumb to his despair.

Instead, Kenobi spent nearly two decades hiding on Tatooine to watch over Anakin’s secret son, Luke Skywalker, in secret. While he had his fair share of personal problems and emotional and mental health issues during that time, Obi-Wan was able to overcome them as he spent the rest of his life making sure that Luke was safe and well until it was time for him to train him in the ways of the Force. And Kenobi even died fully dedicated to the Jedi and the new hope of the galaxy when he allowed Darth Vader to strike him down so that he could become one with the Force.

That means that Obi-Wan never even considered doing anything other than serving the Jedi, even after the fall of the Jedi Order. While some of the surviving Jedi tried to live normal lives and even fell in love and started families of their own during the reign of the Empire, Obi-Wan dedicated his life to ensuring that the galaxy still had one last hope. That is why fans believe he was a true Jedi in every sense of the word, as he never even thought about backing out of his mission to start a family and have a wife on Tatooine.

But he was almost temped during his youth

While we all know that Obi-Wan was the picture of what a true Jedi was supposed to be, the thing about him was that he was never perfect. That’s because, during his younger years, he actually flirted with temptation as he fell in love. We all know that the Jedi Code forbids the Jedi from falling in love because it is believed that romantic attachments can lead to the dark side.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Doesn’t Have a Brother, But He Almost Did: Here’s How

When he was still a Padawan under Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan met Duchess Satine Kryze of Mandalore on a mission during the events of the Mandalorian Civil War. He and Qui-Gon were tasked to protect Satine from her Mandalorian enemies. As such, they needed to keep a low profile the entire time, moving from one place to another without even knowing what would happen to them next.

This went on for about a year as this was enough time for Obi-Wan and Satine to get to know one another. They soon developed romantic feelings for one another as Satine’s hopefulness and inner fire inspired Obi-Wan. Meanwhile, Satine fell for Obi-Wan’s valor as a Jedi.

But while it was clear that Obi-Wan and Satine were in love, they never told one another their true feelings because they understood what was at stake. Satine needed to be her people’s leader, and Obi-Wan was on his way to becoming a Jedi. As such, they parted ways without even acting on their love for one another.

During the Clone Wars, the two reunited on Mandalore when Obi-Wan was sent there on a mission. There was clear tension between the two because they had unresolved issues that stemmed from the fact that they could never tell one another how they felt so many years ago. But they eventually buried the hatchet and started working together more professionally.

As Obi-Wan and Satine were on their way to Coruscant so that the duchess could speak to the Senate, they were attacked by a mysterious assailant. Senator Tal Merrik, who was supposed to be loyal to Satine, became a traitor. He was about to kill Satine while they went to Coruscant. That was when Satine admitted her love for Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan, in turn, told Satine that he would have left the Jedi Order years ago if Satine had told him that she loved her. Of course, Satine didn’t die right then and there because Anakin killed Merrik before he could kill Satine.

This means that Obi-Wan once flirted with the idea of leaving the Jedi Order when he was still a Padawan. The only reason he wanted to leave the life of a Jedi was to be with Satine, the only woman he ever loved. Nevertheless, he continued to live the life of a true Jedi until his final days. He even took on the name “Ben,” a nickname Satine gave him when they were still traveling together years ago.
