With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Last Kingdom’ later next month, DCEU is finally coming to an end and Gunn’s and Safran’s DCU is taking over. We know that one of the first projects to be released is ‘Superman: Legacy’ Gunn’s own project that handles a younger, not established Superman inspired by ‘All-Star Superman’ by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely.
David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan were cast as Superman and Lois Lane in June and last week, the news spread like wildfire that María Gabriela de Faría landed the role of villain The Engineer. Now Deadline reports that one additional carefully picked member of the cast has been selected as Nicholas Hoult will be playing the role of Superman’s greatest villain, Lex Luthor.
Hoult is no stranger to superhero movies as it stands as one of his most notable roles was in ‘X-Men: First Class’ where he played Hank McCoy, better known as Beast. The details surrounding ‘Legacy’ aren’t known, and it’s unknown what kind of a role Luthor will play in it.
“Superman: Legacy” is a film with a bit of mystery surrounding its plot. James Gunn, halfway through the writing process, has hinted that it won’t be an origin story, distinguishing it from previous Superman movies. The storyline will take place in a world where superheroes already exist, involving other iconic DC heroes alongside Superman. Despite the ensemble, Gunn emphasizes that the core focus remains on Clark Kent and Lois Lane, steering away from being a sleeper Justice League movie.
Gunn also took to social networks to debunk the recent rumors that a major plot point will be a terrorism threat coming from the Middle East involving Kryptonian Tech.
‘Superman: Legacy’ filming is scheduled to start in March 2024, with the movie set to be released on July 11th, 2025.
