‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ was released this Friday, and the Box office prognosis does not look good. According to the previews alone, ‘Aquaman’ has already earned less than ‘The Marvels’ and ‘The Flash’ which are some of the most notable superhero flops in the last few years.

There are many reasons why the movie might flop; first and foremost, it’s the official end of the DCEU before the cinematic universe transitions to Gunn’s DCU, and quite frankly, everything DC-related that people talk about in the last few months is related to the upcoming ‘Superman: Legacy.’ Second, fans are mostly angry that Amber Heard returned to the movie following her highly publicized trial against former spouse Johny Depp, which she lost. And third, the most vital promotion, ‘Aquaman,’ was missed due to the historic SAG-AFTRA strike, which ended only a few weeks ago.

The interest in the movie is not that great. Even Momoa couldn’t attract the massive crowd that showed up to see the first Aquaman movie, and it’s honestly hard to top that kind of success. The movie was also not received favorably by critics; it holds 36 % on Rotten Tomatoes currently based on 141 movie critic’s opinions. The movie also received a “B” grade from CinemaScore, joining the company of ‘Batman V Superman’ and ‘The Flash.’ What’s interesting is that the first installment in Aquaman’s solo movie series received an A-grade, just like the first Superman solo movie, ‘Man of Steel’ in the DCEU that it is.

Based on other scores, we can say with certainty that the year 2023 wasn’t that stellar, to begin with, with ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods and ‘Blue Beetle’ are landing on B+ grades. If you’re not familiar with Cinemascore grades, a “B” grade means that the audience’s reaction to the movie overall was mixed as well. The movie was not all bad, but it wasn’t excellent either.

The first box office results should also come soon, and based on every other reaction so far, it’s not the question of whether the movie will fail but how much it will fail.
