The MCU built up the Infinity Saga for ten years, leading to the Mad Titan, Thanos. We first saw him, back in 2012, appear in the post-credit scene of ‘The Avengers’ and from there, he was built up in several films to be the main villain for ‘Avengers Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers Endgame.’ Josh Brolin gave a fantastic performance, and as much as he had a great ending, he returned in several other projects at least his alternate versions did and he was killed in all of them.
Thanos is set to be replaced by Kang the Conqueror (for now), still he will go down in the annals of history as the most iconic villain in the MCU, who at one point, even had his own Google Doodle – the greatest testament to his cultural impact. Now Josh Brolin is still keeping up with his contacts in the industry and during his most recent interview with ComicBook.com while showcasing his latest movie, ‘Dune’ Brolin kind of hinted that Thanos might return.
You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back. And there’s the What If…? series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back.
The interviewer mentioned how Thanos is the most killed villain in MCU having died twice in ‘Avengers’ and multiple times in ‘What If…?.’ He was also killed by the Illuminati in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’ Brolin was amused by this fact.
I didn’t know that he was the most killed-off Marvel villain … You learn something new every day.
We sort of do have rumors that the undead version of Thanos is going to make an appearance in ‘Marvel Zombies’ and that yet another version of the character will be featured in ‘What If….?’ Season 3. However as far as the mainline MCU goes? I suppose it’s possible, we’re in the Multiverse Saga and if we’ve learned anything so far in the context of the MCU project that touched upon the subject, there are countless live-action versions of Thanos ready to appear on the big screen, in at least a cameo role.
