2024 is bound to be a year of change, at least as far as Disney goes. After several big-budget MCU productions failed in 2023 and were met with a lukewarm reception, Bob Iger himself stated that they will definitely focus on quality over quantity in the future and will scale down their content production. We also know that there are over 20 MCU projects in development or rumored to be in development, and the Star Wars universe also has a full slate of upcoming shows & movies, most of them announced during the 2023 Star Wars Celebration event. Now in recent news, Disney+ confirmed several of those upcoming projects, and most of them are scheduled to be released in 2024 let’s see what they are:
1. ‘X-Men ’97’ — March 20
‘X-Men ’97’ arrives on the platform with the first two episodes on March 20, 2024. The show will consist of 10 episodes with an average 30-minute runtime. Due to it being a continuation of ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’ the show is not canon to the MCU and is set within its own timeline. Still, if you’re up for some nostalgia you can’t miss this treat.
2. ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ — June 5
‘The Acolyte’ was announced to be in development back in 2020. The show is at the end of the High Republic Era 100 years before the ‘Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace’ and will follow a “former Padawan” reuniting with her Jedi Master as they investigate a series of crimes. The show is set to be released on Disney+ on June 5 and will consist of 8 episodes.
3. ‘Agatha’ – Fall 2024
‘Agatha’ is a spinoff of ‘WandaVision’ and will follow Agatha Harkness after the events of the show. The series spent a lot of time in development hell and at this point, its most recognizable trait is that it changes its name very often, as of now it’s currently known as ‘Agatha.’ The show doesn’t have a confirmed release date now but it is confirmed that it’s going to release in late/Fall 2024 just in time for Halloween.
4. ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ — 2024
Now ‘Skeleton Crew’ was supposed to be released back in 2023, they even had a trailer ready during the Celebration event for a private screening, however, it seems that due to the SAG-AFTRA strike some necessary changes to the show weren’t implemented on time and now the show is scheduled to premiere in 2024. The premise follows four children as they get lost and end up on an adventure following an amazing discovery on their home planet. The show will consist of eight episodes.
5. ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ — 2024
‘Eyes of Wakanda’ was announced relatively recently by Marvel Studios in 2023 and little is known about it except that it will be set in the past and will follow Wakanda Warriors as they travel far and wide to recover Wakandan artifacts. Despite the animated show being confirmed only a few months ago, it arrives at Disney+ in 2024 as a part of Phase 5.
6. ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ — 2024
‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ yesterday got a new logo, so we can assume that the release date confirmation is coming closer. We don’t know the exact day, but the show is scheduled to arrive on the streaming service in 2024. The show will follow young Peter Parker as Norman Osborn becomes his mentor. The second season has already been confirmed ahead of the first season’s release.
