At the end of 2023, DCEU officially ended and was taken over by Gunn’s and Safran’s DCU. The majority of the project planned for the disbanded cinematic universe was canceled and the actors were dismissed. However, one franchise that was developing along DCEU even though it wasn’t technically a part of it survived the onslaught, Mat Reeves’ Batman Universe, which so far has several projects in development.
‘The Batman’ was intended to be only the first in a trilogy of movies and soon after the release ‘Tha Batman – Part II’ was announced.
In December 2021, Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves discussed ideas for future Batman films, including introducing Robin and featuring various villains like the Court of Owls. In April 2022, Warner Bros. announced the development of the next Batman film with Matt Reeves directing and Robert Pattinson starring. Throughout 2022 and 2023, there were announcements about returning cast members, potential villains, and production details. The sequel, titled ‘The Batman: Part II,’ was scheduled for release in October 2025. Despite some delays due to industry strikes, production details continued to emerge, including the return of key cast and crew members. However, today, it was announced that the project would be delayed for an entire year, now being scheduled to be released on October 2, 2026.
The reasons why the movie was delayed again aren’t exactly known but we will update you as soon as more information emerges.
‘The Batman – Part II’ is scheduled to be part of ‘Elseworlds’ stories and the original movie series gave rise to multiple spinoffs including ‘The Penguin’ series and Untitled Gotham City Police Department series.
