There are plenty of DC-based projects currently in development, and while all eyes are on Gunn’s DCU and his upcoming ‘Creature Commandos’ & ‘Superman’ we occasionally forget that Elseworlds, which ‘The Batman’ film series and several other upcoming projects are a part of, are doing their own thing. The next big thing is ‘The Penguin’ live-action series.

Today, the first official teaser for the show dropped revealing Colin Farrell returning as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot / Penguin. The teaser also confirmed that the show will be released this fall. ‘The Penguin’ picks up a week after the events of ‘The Batman’, and it will explore his ascent to power in Gotham City’s criminal realm. The show will be eight episodes long. You can check out the teaser below:

‘The Penguin’ is led by executive producer and showrunner Lauren LeFranc, known for her work on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Matt Reeves, renowned for ‘The Batman,’ will also executive produce through his company 6th & Idaho. Craig Zobel, known for ‘Mare of Easttown,’ will direct the first three episodes. Other executive producers include Farrell, Dylan Clark, Daniel Pipski, and Bill Carraro, with Ravi Crohn serving as co-executive producer. The production started in March 2023 and briefly halted in June due to strikes, before resuming shooting after Thanksgiving.

The upcoming series sees Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Carmine’s daughter, who challenges Cobblepot for control of Gotham’s criminal underworld. Clancy Brown portrays Salvatore Maroni, a mob boss, and Michael Zegen appears as Alberto Falcone, Carmine’s son. Other cast members in undisclosed roles include Rhenzy Feliz, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell. Have something to add? Let us know in the comments below!
