‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is certainly one of the releases this year that is meant to kickstart great things. First, the movie is Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU, something that fans have been asking for, well, since the MCU existed. Second, it’s part of a new strategy that aims to restore at least some of the faith that fans had in the franchise and in the studio.

For months now we’ve heard testimonies of people who have seen finished parts of the movie how it’s going to be the MCU saver and even some plot points have been leaked, as well as the first look at the villain Cassandra Nova, played by Emma Corrin.

There have also been some talks about the jokes, and if we know one thing but Deadpool, it’s that he is not exactly subtle both when it comes to violence, gore, and when it comes to humor which is more often than not mocking, insulting, and straight up savage. This is why ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ will be the studios’ first R-rated movie, as they are usually focused on bringing PG-13 fun to the cinemas. The movie also received a historic age rating in Japan as well.

The Japanese Film Ethics Classification and Rating Organization (EIRIN) has given ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ an R15+ rating, marking a historic first for Marvel Studios. While this rating is unprecedented for Marvel, it’s not new for the Deadpool franchise, which previously received R15+ ratings for its first two films under 20th Century Fox. In Japan, all Marvel Studios movies before ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ had received a G rating, suitable for all ages.

The R15+ rating in Japan restricts admission to individuals aged 15 and older. In the United States, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is rated R, indicating restricted viewing for those under 17 unless accompanied by an adult. Though the ratings differ between countries, they share the goal of regulating age-appropriate viewing.

While this is no surprise by any means, it’s still nice to see Deadpool making history across the globe. Have something to add? Let us know in the comments below!
