No matter whether you are a fan of Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy, you have to agree that Kirsten Dunst’s portrayal of the former is legendary at this point. Dunst portrayed Mary Jane in Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy, which is still the most financially successful movie of her’s up to this point.

Since playing MJ, Dunst explored various roles in various genres but fans still mostly associate her with Peter Parker’s most iconic love interest, this is why naturally, questions arose on why she wasn’t included in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ alongside Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

In her recent interview with GQ Dunst admitted that she would have made an appearance but she wasn’t called, she also admitted that she never saw the movie, so couldn’t give an honest answer on how that would have worked.

No, no. I would have. It would be funny to be like, OK, let’s take Tobey [Maguire] and I and do it in a weird indie way where it’s like a different kind of superhero film. Like how they did that movie Chronicle. It could be cool.

Dunst also revealed that working on the original ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy was more akin to working on an indie film:

It was more innocent, I think. Sam Raimi was like a cult director, so it felt like we were making an indie disguised as a superhero film.

In the past, Dunst admitted that she would play a role in a superhero movie again because it pays a lot of money. This is an interesting take nowadays, especially when you take into account the bloated budgets and unrealistic box office expectations. While we can’t expect to see Dunst in the MCU anytime soon, she has a movie coming up ‘Civil War’ by Alex Garland, and she is expected to make an appearance in the upcoming ‘Rhubarb.’
