Last year new co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios Gunn & Safran announced that DCEU is transitioning into the newly dubbed “DCU” and that the cinematic universe will be rebooted.

They announced the first slate of movies that are supposed to be a part of the first chapter titled ‘Gods & Monsters.’ Among those projects was ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’

Little is known about the overall movie except that it’s based on Tom King’s comic book series ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ illustrated by Bilquis Evely, the script for the big screen was penned by Ana Nogueira. It’s one of the most interesting ‘Supergirl’ stories to date. A few months ago we learned that the young ‘House of the Dragon’ star, Milly Alcock will be portraying Supergirl and now it seems that the movie may have found its director.

According to Deadline, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ Craig Gillespie is in talks to direct the movie. Craig Gillespie is a versatile director known for a range of projects spanning comedy, drama, and horror. His notable works include ‘Lars and the Real Girl,’ ‘I, Tonya,’ ‘Fright Night,’ ‘Million Dollar Arm,’ ‘The Finest Hours,’ and ‘Cruella.’

Gunn recently confirmed that the script for ‘Supergirl’ is completed, DC plans to shoot a movie in Q4, following the completion of ‘Superman,’ scheduled for release on July 11, 2025. The film is being produced by DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, with DC EVP Chantal Nong serving as executive producer.

Gunn already announced that the Supergirl will be seeing on the big screen is a different take on the Supergirl we are used to seeing:

We see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.

‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ doesn’t have a set release date. Have something to add? Let us know in the comments below!
