Sydney Sweeney’s latest foray into the superhero genre went down in infamy. She recently portrayed Julia Cornwall aka Spider-Woman in SSU’s latest flop ‘Madame Web.’
Sweeney commented on her failed role with grace telling the inquiring press that she was only an actress in it and had nothing to do with what many considered to be a subpar story and an even worse idea.
Despite the negative reviews that the movie received, fans still wanted to see Sweeney in superhero roles, and she’s been fancast in plenty of upcoming productions. Now notable leaker and scooper MyTimeToShineHello stated on X have Sydney Sweeney has been cast as Black Cat in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4.’
Little is known about the upcoming production, and no director has been assigned to it yet, with Raimi being the most recently reported candidate in the running. However, several weeks prior it’s been rumored that Anya Taylor-Joy was also in the running to portray one of Spider-Man’s most important supporting characters. Black Cat has been, over the years, everything from supervillain to Peter’s love interest and ally, depending on what the situation calls for.
The script for ‘Spider-Man 4’ is still being worked on, with no director attached and no start date yet. This implies that the movie is still early in development but Zendaya is up to this point confirmed to reprise her role by several sources. It’s been said that Feige wanted to avoid making the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ installment a Multiversal story and instead wanted to focus on street-level heroes and challenges.
Even if Sydney doesn’t get the role, she will certainly be busy in the next few years. We’ve recently seen her in a psychological horror film ‘Immaculate,’ and she has two more thrillers lined up ‘Echo Valley’ currently in post-production and ‘Eden’ currently being filmed.
