Zack Snyder is currently on a tour promoting his latest movie, ‘Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scargiver’ and he often takes a moment to address his former iconic movies – for better or worse.

Recently, Snyder shocked fans by telling the world that Batman is boring if he can’t kill, and no matter whether you agree with him or not, killing is not the point of Batman’s character and that’s a fact.

Snyder recently sat down with GQ and reflected on his most iconic movies, on the list was ‘Man of Steel,’ a movie that had mixed reactions at best, some critics calling it an “exceptionally unpleasant experience.” One of the most criticized points of the movie is the fight scene between Zod and Superman, with fans pointing out that the fight was completely out of Superman’s character, well according to Snyder if Superman can’t kill Zod he is fake. No, no, he really said that:

Zod’s not wrong from his point of view, but also, there’s no really room for humans in this scenario that Zod’s presenting and he’s not gonna stop. He wasn’t gonna negotiate an outcome, so it was either Zod or us. And that was pretty much the game. There was no like middle ground. Zod said, “He would fight until either you kill me or I kill you.”

That’s the game. There’s no like, and they’re like, “But why would you put Superman in that position?”

I’m like, “Well, if Superman can’t handle that position, then he’s fake, then he’s not. You gotta like, he’s got to address the scenarios that come to him. He can’t pick and choose as you can’t pick and choose.”

When something is outside of your morality, your normal morality that you can deal with, it’s like the Kobayashi Maru, right, from “Star Trek.”

You know, it’s like the idea that like, you’re presented a scenario, a no-win scenario. And in the no-win scenario, how do you respond?

And I think that if you can respond, if the character can respond in a way that solidifies his humanity, then he’s stronger.

Snyder might actually be right in his analysis, but the execution of it in ‘Man of Steel’ was bad. The extensive destruction in battle scenes, lack of character development, plot holes, pacing issues, and absence of humor were among the main points of contention. Pair this with such a major change when it comes to Superman’s character, you got yourself an underwhelming movie.

But not everything regarding the movie was bad, despite these criticisms, the film also got praise for its visual style and action sequences, finding support among audiences who appreciated its fresh take on the Superman mythos.
