‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is certainly one of the releases this year that is meant to kickstart great things. First, the movie is Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU, something that fans have been asking for, well, since the MCU existed. Second, it’s part of a new strategy that aims to restore at least some of the faith that fans had in the franchise and in the studio.

Since the movie is being so hyped at this point, there’s plenty of information going around regarding the plot, cast, and overall expected appearances in the movie. We decided to gather that information in one spot and present you with a comprehensive guide on the upcoming movie so, let’s go.

Deadpool might be the key to a stable Multiverse

The official synopsis of the movie goes as follows:

Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date – “Deadpool & Wolverine.” A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary Deadpool, behind him. When his homework faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier…reluctantler? Reluctantest? He must convince reluctant Wolverine to-Fuck. Synopses are so fucking stupid.

As you can see, this synopsis doesn’t tell us much what the movie will be about….

CinemaCon attendees were treated to an exclusive 9-minute preview of Deadpool & Wolverine. The footage introduces Wade Wilson, now a car salesman forced to sell Blind Al’s blood pressure medications on the side to pay his rent, accompanied by his X-Force teammate Peter, who holds onto Deadpool’s old costume, hinting at a return to crime-fighting. At a surprise birthday party, familiar X-Men characters like Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead appear. Wade’s relationship with Vanessa is revealed as amicable but no longer romantic, as the two split up. Vanessa also has a new boyfriend.

During the celebration, the TVA interrupts and transports Wade to meet Mr. Paradox, offering him a chance to play a significant role in the multiverse’s sacred timeline, as he is seemingly the only one who can protect it. Wade receives a suit upgrade and adamantium swords. Amidst humorous moments like breaking the fourth wall, Wade embraces his new role with flair. It’s also revealed that Wade wasn’t captured by the TVA due to his shenanigans in ‘Deadpool 2’ when he stole Cable’s time-traveling device, but rather due to some different reason that remains unrevealed. Cassandra Nova is set to play the villain of the movie, with so far unknown motives.

Now that we’ve covered the official stuff, let’s venture into the “unofficial stuff.” Several interesting rumors resurfaced in the last few weeks, and while they weren’t acknowledged by the official sources, they do make sense. The movie will allegedly take place mostly in the Void, yes the same void we’ve seen in ‘Loki’ TV show, which once again, makes sense if Deadpool is going to travel to the mainline MCU. The movie is also supposed to introduce the concept of “anchor” which is a person upon which the existence of a certain timeline or universe depends. If that “anchor” dies, the universe dies with that person. No, before you ask, Deadpool is allegedly not that anchor.

The latest released trailer showed us Deadpool trying to recruit Wolverine, and we found out that for some reason Wolverine is to blame for his reality taking a wrong turn. Cassandra Nova makes Ant-Man’s giant head her headquarters as she commands an army of former small-time X-Men villains.

Shawn Levy recently stated that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is NOT a sequel to ‘Deadpool 2.’

The cast of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is…well, confusing to say the least

Ryan Reynolds will portray Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool. Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine. Emma Corrin portrays Cassandra Nova, a mutant with telekinetic and telepathic powers. Morena Baccarin returns as Vanessa. The cast also includes Rob Delaney as Peter, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, a Time Variance Authority agent.

Additionally, actors from previous Deadpool films reprise their roles, including Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio. Some actors from other 20th Century Fox Marvel films, such as Aaron Stanford as Pyro and Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios, also make appearances. The film also features Dogpool, Sabretooth, Toad, and repurposed footage of Thor portrayed by Chris Hemsworth.

Once again that is the official info, aside from these characters there are plenty more expected or rumored to make appearances:

  1. Babypool, Kidpool, and Headpool
  2. Lady Deadpool
  3. Henry Cavill as Wolverine variant
  4. Patrick Stewart as Professor X
  5. Ian McKellen as Magneto
  6. Halle Berry as Storm
  7. Channing Tatum as Gambit
  8. James Marsden as Cyclops
  9. Famke Janssen as Jean Grey
  10. Daniel Radcliffe as Wolverine variant
  11. Natalia Tena as X-23 variant
  12. Dania Ramirez as Calisto
  13. Kelly Hu as Lady Deathstrike
  14. Jason Flemyng as Azazel
  15. Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15
  16. Chris Evans as Johnny Storm / Human Torch

What do we know about runtime?

The runtime of the movie was announced to be 2 hours and 7 minutes.

The movie at one point switched dates with ‘Captain America 4’

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is set to premiere in the United States on July 26, 2024, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.

Development for the third Deadpool film initially began at 20th Century Fox in November 2016 but was halted after Disney’s acquisition of the studio in March 2019. Marvel Studios took over control of the character, with plans to integrate Deadpool into the MCU while maintaining the R rating of the previous films. Writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin joined the project in November 2020. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returned for rewrites by March 2022, and Shawn Levy was hired as director.

Filming commenced in May 2023 at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional scenes shot in Norfolk and at Bovingdon Film Studios. Production was briefly halted in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike but resumed in November, wrapping in January 2024. The film’s title was unveiled a month later.
