MCU has quite a slate of movies coming up, even though Marvel Studios has hit a rough patch with the last couple of projects. There have been talks about releasing fewer projects, as fans are definitely becoming tired of shows and movies of lower quality; still, if one character always managed to drag people to movies, it’s Spider-Man, by far the most profitable Marvel franchise, no matter the product you’re looking at.
So far, talking about the MCU specifically, Spider-Man has three standalone movies and a fourth on the way. This was confirmed several months ago by producer Amy Pascal, who confirmed that the work on the sequel has been ongoing.
We know that the upcoming still doesn’t have a director attached to it, Watts gave up on the sequel movies, focusing on other projects but several names have been mentioned. Drew Goddard, Justin Lin, and Sam Raimi are currently the names associated with the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4’ but neither name was addressed in an official sense, especially now that Goddard and Justin Lin are also attached to other upcoming notable projects.
Collider recently spoke to Watts at this year’s CCXP in Mexico City, and he was asked whether he has some insights for the future director of the ‘Spider-Man’ and boy did he have something to say.
I have a very practical bit of Spider-Man advice, and I think every Spider-Man director goes through it. It doesn’t look good when someone is just swinging on a rope. You think you’re gonna go in there, you’re like, ‘we’re gonna do it all practical. We’re gonna get a stuntman. We’re gonna be swinging around.’ It’s boring. It looks dumb. It looks like a monkey swinging on a vine when you put someone on just a rope. Don’t waste your time. That’s my advice to the next Spider-Man director.
I totally agree with him, having just Spider-Man swinging on a rope would look passive and flat, totally not up to the action that we are expecting from a movie of such caliber.
Not much is known about the plot of the upcoming movie, other than that it’s heavily rumored to be focused on street-level heroes and stories.
The script for ‘Spider-Man 4’ is still not finished, but the movie is currently aiming to start production in late 2024, which means that we can expect the movie sometime in 2026, if not later.
